Fighting During a Cross Country Race

However, with regards to #3. If you hit a guy who was coming at you and all he did was stumble, you must hit like a little girl. I suggest you react differently in the future, because you will someday hit someone who hits back.

Big Daddy Walsh socked Hayden in the face a few years back, but after the race immediately came up and appologized. Hayden took it as it was, in the heat of racing. they're boys today, and hayden even respects the fact he did it.

Well my actions were not as extreme, but that result was better. This was back in high school during a 5k cross-country race. This guy was running so close to me and bumping me and stepping on my heels for like 2 miles of the race. I knew the course very well and knew there was a wooden bridge coming up with water under it. So a little after 2 miles I backed off and ran next to him and ran him off the bridge as we went over. It wasn?t too tough since there was no railings and I am 6?2?. We were in the top 10 of the race so needless to say he never made it back up. It was so funny after the race, he was dripping wet everyone kept asking him what happened. We actually went on to race on the same USATF club later that year, so all was good

This was a few years back at the 99 DII GreatLakes regional in joplin missouri. There was a tussle up front with a bunch of the foreigners. Apparently the two finnish runners from moso (wannas and kykyri) had been giving the russian from cmsu (golias, 96 olympian) a hard time, running on both sides of him giving elbows and cutting him off and the like. Well old vlad got pissed off and while in full stride cold cocked wannas right in the head, KO'd him out of the race. Needless to say they (NCAA) came down hard on the russian and he was forced to miss nats, but those dirty moso runners never messed with him again!

there was a start that narrowed real quick in this one race, and this kid that i already didn't like punched my teammate in the back then elbowed him in the chest as he passed. i naturally caught up to the kid, kicked his back foot so that it hit his front foot and he promptly went down. he didn't retaliate and even said 'hey man' every time i saw him after that. what a buttmonkey...

I jacked a guy who tried to pass me in the finish line chute.

I'm too old for that now (but would love the opportunity to do it again).

pushing jerk-off runners into obstacles is a favorite of mine, especially in the middle of a tight turn. They end up losing at least 3 seconds (more if they bite it hard)

In my first cross race in college at Auburn. Everyone that's ever been there knows about the big tree at the first turn (90 degrees). Some guy pushes me in the back at the start. My teammate seen this came across 3 different guys and laid into him. He went flying straight into the tree. Don't know what happen to him, but I heard he was laid out for the count.

there was this one time, back in junior high, when i was running next to this weally big, bad looking runner and i sort of rubbed his hip with my elbow. i think he was weally scared an i was so excited i peed in my short shorts.

I was a accomplished high school runner 1600-4:13 3200-8:59 never made footlocker(kinney's)Im 29. As a youth I grew up in a rough neighbor hood in the inner city and got into a lot of fights. My coach scheduled a dual meet with some school in the suburbs in a very high class part of town(rich kids).Anyway at about 1.5m of a 5k a teammate of mine who I am helping in this race gets spiked badly (18 stitches) and goes down. We keep running not knowing how bad he is hurt. I look back to see who did it and this kid pushes me in the back. I said "If you touch me again I'll knock you out", well he pushed me again. I stopped, he stopped one punch to the temple and he was out cold, eyes in the back of his head I was told by some of my passing teammates that he didn't move for about a minute. Once he did move he was saying "what just happened, why was I on the ground". My coach and myself and that kid and his coach got together as soon as the race was over to get our sides of the story. I told my side then everyone looks to the kid to get his side and he say's "the last thing I remember is my mile split, but now I know Why I was on the ground. In the end nothing came of it. If in fact somthing like this does happen to you do not punch some one unless you are prepared to get punched back.

I've never gotten into a fight during an XC race, but I did once in a road race and once in a track 5k.

During the road race, a 10K when I was a scrawny college frosh, I decided to go out with a guy who'd gotten a big prerace writeup. Unfortunately, I was a little too enthusiastic and clipped his heels a couple of times. My bad. Much to my surprise, though, he turned around and slugged me right in the mouth. I grabbed him and tried to wrestle him to the ground, then came to my senses when the cop car in the lead (right in front of us) started to slow down. He got rattled and finished 10th, and my fat lip and I ended up third, but in a big PR (30:27).

Later that spring during a track 5k against UMass, I passed one of their guys. He immediately began to punch me in the back, which pissed me off. Eventually, he passed me, but too far outside to retaliate. Without thinking, I spat right in the poor guy's face. I felt bad immediately, ran like shit and apologized when it was over. He was pretty cool about it.

At my senior footlocker meet this guy came up to me at the mile mark and started talking trash to me. Without thinking I spiked him hard on the side of the foot and did a German suplex on him in the woods. But when he got up he was pissed and being that I know he had a bench press max of 225 at the time and I was no match for him in a fair fight, I took off as hard as I can and ran the last mile in 4:20. He never caught me.

Ha, you guys are funny. I should have expected you would make fun of me instead of contributing to the discussion. Of course, I am inclined to defend myself.

If I were looking for accolades, I would have posted under my real name and I would have put the kid's name, as well. The kid is bigger than me and has a "reputation" for being a tough guy, so it would be pretty embarassing to him for people to hear how he didn't fight back. I think people would be surprised to hear that I hit someone, too.

With my name, I was trying to make a reference to "Liar Liar" when Jim Carrey was hitting on the girl in the elevator. He's the first boxer that came to mind.

Considering we were in full stride and I had to punch at an awkward angle across my body, I think I gave him a pretty good hit. I don't think any runner could do a one-punch knockout in that situation. I knocked him off the course, off balance, his head went snapping back, and I drew some blood. (I didn't see it happen at the time, but his mouth was bloody afterwards.) Considering what an ass this guy was being before I hit him, I expected him to come after me, but I think I just succeeded in settling him down and shutting him up.

How is running someone off a bridge less extreme then a punch thrown with the strength of a schoolgirl?
