I've been training at about 80-90 mpw and I'm hoping to do a half marathon (or maybe only 10 miles) tempo at my goal marathon pace which is about 6 minute pace. I've run enough races and I've done some longer 6-8 mile tempos that correlate to a 2:37 marathon.
I'd do a half marathon tempo solo, but I figure it's much easier for me to do the tempo during a race where there are water stations, measured miles, and other runners to keep me moving.
Is two weeks prior to my goal marathon too close to do a 10-13 mile marathon pace tempo run? Would 3 weeks be safer/smarter??
