Cheruiyot has never really gotten a chance to show what he can do against the very best.
Having seen RC in training recently(about 4 weeks ago) i had concerns that he might be overtraining .Up until recently i thought he had got away with it.Normally when RC is training normaly when he is preparing for the city marathons he tends to train with a large group of runners in Nairobi and is never too intense but this time round he spent alot of time training with just 2 other guys once in a while and doing far too much milliage which was not very necessary because he has good endurance already.Anyway I guess he need to rest and heal up then focus on maybe NYC if the injury dissappears quickly,i know for a fact that it is not a serious one.
Very unfortunate. RC was my pick for the gold. I guess Hall will just have to win it now:)
That sucks, is there no possible way he could of run through it? It would be nice to see a him finally face the 1-2 combo of Lel and Wanjiru at the Olympics no less!
Damn, I thought Cheruiyot was the only guy who would really give Lel a run for his money. I was looking forward to seeing those two and Wanjiru blow the race apart when they decided to go. This is definitely good for Hall. With all three Kenyans healthy and in shape I think the best he was going to do was 4th. He has a better chance to medal now.
"Okeyo said the delegation has sent instructions back home to locate world champion Luke Kibet and put him on the next flight to Beijing"
I hope he's been training
Kibet has been training well.He is in very good shape he actually did a few training runs with RC some time in june and jluly with a few other members of the kenyan team.He also participated in several 10k races and recorded 27mins/28mins .I do not think he will be able to match Martin Lel and Wanjiru though .Lel is in superb form, and will be arriving to beijing tomorrow.
Too bad for Cheruyiot, but I wonder why Kenya picked Luke Kibet over William Kipsang? True, Kibet's win at the World Champs last year shows he can run well in the heat...but it's difficult to think that this makes him the better alternate, especially after seeing his 11th place finish at London this year. Kipsang's 2:05:49 at Rotterdam last year would make him the better choice.
they should have picked the chicago guy.. he can run in the heat.. ituvi or something
Kibet? I guess it's because he's had success racing without pacesetters. Still, William Kipsang (2:05:49 PR) and Emmanuel Mutai (2:06:16 PR) are much faster; Kibet's never even gone sub-2:08. Even Ivuti, who won Chicago in the heat would have been a good pick.
