I just finished my sophomore year in high school, and will be a junior next year.
My sophomore year, I ran 5:31 off of only around 20 mpw. At the end of the season, I did some blood tests and also found out I was anemic. I've been taking supplements, and over the summer I've put in 40-50 miles per week. I did a recent time trial on a cross country course, and beat my previous time by quite a bit.
My cross country season will probably end sometime in November, and I'll probably start lowering my mileage at the end of September. I still have about 10-11 months to go until the end of the track season however.
Is sub 5 a reasonable goal to aim for, for the end of track season? I know it's a huge improvement, but has it ever happened before (huge improvement like this, I mean)? I plan to keep my mileage around 50 during the winter base season.
I want to make the state meet (at least, state trials), and I'll definitely need to be under 5 to make it (I'm a girl by the way). I'm just curious to know if there have been any cases where there's been such huge improvement, etc (by a girl). Thanks!
