I know theres been a few threads about the heat lately, but man, here in Oxford, MS it will be 100 with a heat index of 109 today. The dew point is already at 75 just at 10:30. I've got class too early to run right now (woke up too late), so I guess I'll be in the dark tonight.
I hope everyone in the South has already gotten their runs in!
Wow, the South is doing a lot better. Down here in Georgia the high's are in the low to mid 90's. And the low's are around 70. At the moment it is 84 out.
Yeah, it's about 84 here right now too, but I wouldn't want to be running at 2-3 pm.
I think it we have had a high of 90 like once or twice this summer, I think. Let me brag until winter.

You should have been at Bartlett Park Ultras (50 miles) in Memphis on Saturday. It was 102 degrees, 50% humidity, and AWESOME.

My girlfriend lives right next to Bartlett Park. I didn't know they had an ultra in that area. Must be mostly on the roads?
But man, that is really hot, but the humidity isn't too bad, is that why it was awesome?

This year was the second year. It's an 8 mile trail loop that's run 6 times, then to the 1 mile mark and back. You could run 50k, 40M, or 50M.
It was unbelievably brutal, most runners ran PWs, a large number of 40M or 50M runners downgraded to 50k, many people collapsed and one guy was pissing blood.
It's a great race though and very well put on.
50% humidity at 102 degrees is bad. real bad.

Check out the chart. 102 degrees with 50% humidity is a heat index of 125. I know NJ is a little warm and balmy but come on!

Is Trapper John still around the Memphis ultra scene. Still have a shirt from a 50 mile ultra up there. In the Fox River area? The volunteer were all so cool. Part of the prize for first was a load of home-made cookies. Top that....sweet.
In St. Louis today it was only 96 with 83% humidity..tomorrow will be cooler, 96 with only 60% humidity. We take what we can get.
