good!
the video ends just before Godzilla crashes the stadium, but the javelin throwers dispatch him in a hail of spears!
Fantastic footage. Mills and Clarke seemed to be running very easily.(early and mid race) I was surprised they were able to gap Lindgren at that
pace. Lindgren did not seem to be affected by his foot injury.
Although only he could say what was going on.
Thanks to Mills brief exposure to Igloi he was able to mount such a great kick. I don't think much has been said about Mills working out with the Igloi athletes.
Thanks for drawing attention to this great clip!
That looks to be from the wonderful "Tokyo Olympiad" from Kon Ichikawa, which is available on DVD. Not cheaply though. Lots of very good track and field action, including about 20 minutes spent on the marathon.
Thanks. Was that haze over the stadium pollution or fog?
I know people are complaining about Beijing, like they complained about LA. I used to live in Syracuse, NY. As you drove into the city very often you couldn't see the signs above the highway until you were right on them- smog.

My guess would be fog... I know I have heard it rained that morning (or day) and that it was good for Mills because his asthma woulnd't be bothered and slow cinders will generally allow more people into contention.
My guess on Lindgren is the foot had been bothering him for quite sometime and had lost significant fitness.
This is in Spanish right?
And can someone dub this English over for the last lap?
Also if someone runs across the 5000m on youtube they should post it on this thread too. This is the year with Dillinger right?
Dillinger was a runner? I always thought he was just a bank robber. A real renaissance man.
wow how many people were in that 10k? madness
to the other poster...I grew up just outside Syracuse and have never seen smog...when did you live there?
Who are the Igloi athletes? Also, does anyone happen to know where I can find an original video of the 10k, i think from a british announcer? (not the one that's commonly on youtube)
where did Ron Clarke finish in the marathon in 64 - anyone know?
oh Man! you have got to watch the footage of the marathon. Totally awesome.

It was reported that Lindgren was running with a sprained ankle, that was injured a few days before.
Nice videos, great running.
Fantastic to see Abebe Bikila in the marathon.
why not just go rent the movie running brave, it shows his whole 10k race in color.
Here's a vote for the basic USA men's uniforms.
Lots of coverage of the women's 800 in part VIII.
Part IX starts with men's 4 X 100, with Bob Hayes anchoring to WR. Men's Long Jump.
X: Women's 80m hurdles, then gymnastics.
Marathon begins about half-way through No. XVII, and is all of XiX and the start of XX. (Bikila actually starts behind everyone else, which is good, because someone goes down at the start.) Great overall stuff.
The 100 is in part IV.
pop quiz
who was the black guy in the 64' 5000 ......?
The Mills Video linked to a video of the 64 marathon- pretty intense- it showed Mills in the marathon, didnt know that he doubled. it also shows Buddy edelen finishing. The 64 marathon is well known for Bikila, but the rest of the race was fascinating.
