Why don't you write a letter to USATF's new CEO on this. There are 20+ threads that mention many of the bad things Chaplin has done over the years, plus at least one recent newspaper article has a story on him (link was/is on letsrun's home page). Just do a search for “Chaplin” on the message board for the last month.

Some of you guys/gals wronged by Chaplin should pull together many of the bad deeds Chaplin is accused of doing and send it to USATF's new CEO. Demand an investigation and a reply. Chaplin has a terrible attitude, as bad as anyone under the old AAU organization. I'm glad I never had to deal with him.

Also copy your letter to the USOC who is pushing for a major reorganization of USATF. Then post your letter here on letsrun as it might prompt others to write. I'll make it a little easier for anyone who will take some time to complain. Here is who you should email or postal mail:

I think someone posted elsewhere that Chaplin's stepping down as men's track & field chair, and that Ed Gorman is supposedly his hand picked successor.

Go to Reno in December and attend the convention en masse if you really want to make a change...call these guys out, as it does you absolutely no good to bitch and moan on letsrun.com.

And while you're at it, make sure that Stephanie Hightower doesn't get elected as USATF president, and go to athletes advisory and ask their officers about what's happening with the Professional Athletes Association funding...

Don't listen to this guy who wants a b******* from men, it's a USATF con. This is how they perpetuate their power, going to the meeting is useless. Save yourself the time, fristration and money.

Contact the USOC and urge them to decertify this illicit organization. Write to new CEO Doug Logan and encourage him to continue to rip out the deep-seated and rotted roots of dishonesty sowed by the likes of John Chaplin and his followers.

We all know that USATF is rotten the core as a result of people like John Chaplin. The problem is that none of us wimpy distance runners have the ....s to take a stance. I have no sympathy for anyone complaining. J. Little was ready to make a move in Eugene and none of the affected runners who complained about being screwed over and wrote appeals stepped up to the plate. Once again there'll be a USATF convention this year and none of the complainers will show up and even if they do, they'll be too weak to take a stance. I agree that John Chaplin needs to go so lets start a formal petition to have him removed - sign on with your USATF number - lets see who goes first and how many signatures we get.

I have recommended a front page straw poll and I will initiate a formailized petition if necessary. Since he is clamoring for action perhaps J. Schieffer could start the petition.

USATF membership should not be required to signing the petition, though a viable name/contact should be entered to validate a signature. An option to enter one's USATF membership information would be useful. A comments field would also be most helpful.

Many who are disenchanted with John Chaplin are no longer USATF members, e.g., Shannon Butler and Greg Meyer are not USATF members. A number of others do not sign up and pay for USATF membership in order to express disappointment in the nature of the sport's leadership.

My guess is that Chaplin's going to be gone. The uproar, and the exposure of his long list of misdeeds, is just too great.

I have to say though, and I think there are many like me, that even though I am a frequent roadracer, it has never once passed my mind that I should become a USATF member.

Fools!!! John Chaplin has plenty of other irons in the fire. He doesn't need USATF, so go ahead guys (course there are only two or three of you whiners) join USATF, send in your money to attend the Annual Meeting, get your hotel and airline reservations, let your boss know that you are going to miss a week of work, get ready to sit through three days of meetings, learn all the procedures and rules of USATF, prepare an amendment to the by-laws, and convince a hundred others to spend their time and money to "pack" the meeting and win a majority vote needed to show what a bunch of losers you are.

Wake up folks....

See the comments on Bauhs' Blog about what happened with Chaplin last year. Did anything happen to Chaplin?

Guys like Chaplin, Farmer-Patrick, and all the rest base their powerr on the fact that the people who don't like things will sit and complain and write things on the internet, but by the time of the Annual Meeting, the REAL PEOPLE in the sport simply won't show up and vote.

Given the comments in RW, flotrack, letsrun, and elsewhere, there might be enough of a groundswell of disgust to throw the Nike gang (remember Chaplin is a paid consultant to Nike) out this time. But the only people who have any power are those who show up and VOTE. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

USOC is watching this affair closely and is poised to decertify USATF. This is not a fair or honest way to have a vote count.

A poll with integrity on Letsrun and petition is a very good idea. Numbers don't lie. No one should be required to pay for a junket to Reno and sit among the wolves to have their vote count.

It is time to renovate the way USATF does business and that includes its election process.

Thank you for clarifying how deceitful it is. This will make for a stronger case against them and Chaplin to Mr. Logan and USOC.

A little heads up on how Chaplin & others are voted into their positions as committee chairs.

Each committee has its own rules on who is on & how boards are composed. Voting is done the following way: Each Association chair has 1 vote, each member of the current board has 1 vote, each athlete in attendance (up to 20% of the total attendance in the meeting) has 1 vote, athletes who have represented the US internationally are given priority in deciding who gets to be part of that 20%.

If anyone is planning on running John or Stephanie out of power, they had better be well organized & willing to spend time & $$ talking to everyone who is a voting member of each T&F committee.

John is o.k. Every meeting I've been in with John has been fine. He says when he feels. I don't always agree with him. What else can you expect.

That will all change soon. USATF's Cuban model stranglehold is faced with certain decertifation by USOC unless they change their self protecting voting mechanisms and rotten at the core personnel. If you support the rotton cores that run US distance running that says plenty about your lack of integrity.
