I was thinking a UK team could do this but its tough and going through our best guys I'm pretty confident a UK team would not make it.
10km track champ Anthony Ford won the trial in 28.30. Mo Farah ran 27.44 on the roads so those 2 between them might just about carry off the 11.1km legs but the next best guys Phil Nicholls has a best of 28.54 on the track and Chris Thompson has ran 28.49 on the road. For the 5k legs you're probably looking at 1st and 2nd in the olympic trial, andy vernon and scott overall. Vernons best is 13.45 on the track, overall 13.28. Therefore, on paper taking mostly track pbs it might look possible but getting all those guys running at pb pace (in isolation most probably) on the road on the same day is not going to happen. You could gamble and throw in a 1500m guy either Baddeley (7.45 3km man) or McCormick (13.25 5km pb) but you'd only be gaining a few secs at best. Of the main marathon men, Robinson, Abyu and riley, only riley has ever broken 29min and not since 2005 so they wouldn't add to the team.
Therefore, does this show that this is a difficult $100k to earn or that UK distance is pretty weak?
