You are ascribing words to me that I didn't utter. I don't even believe what you said.

His comments would only be "totally baseless and without foundation" if there were no reason to suspect that a long-distance runner doped. But given what we know about the sport, that's not true.

He is not accusing anyone at all! He just has a good grasp of logic.

This is the foundation of his remark: unless athletes of greater talent are significantly less likely to dope, dopers who don't get caught should tend to beat the clean athletes.

Famigletti is a realist who refuses to dope in order to "level the playing field."

Or he doped and still got his ass handed to him by the Africans.

Famgilietti wasn't talking of long distance (in general), he was talking of the steeplechase (in particular).

In my view, only one runner worth talking about (as far as this discipline is concerned) has been tested and found positive; BRAHIM BOULAMI a former world record holder.

That is the guy Famiglietti should have been talking about without generalising.

It's easy to make sweeping statements without any tangible proof. We can all do that. Anyone can do it.

Sadly he doesn't even appear on the Kenyans radar, or they would tell him just what they think of him..a trivial footnote.

Let me second you on this;

Ezekiel Kemboi Cheboi, Richard Kipkemboi Mateloong, Brimin Kipruto, Paul Kipsiele Koech, Michael Kipyego et al have no clue who Famiglietti is. In the grand scheme of things, they worry not about him when preparing for major races.

All they probably know is that there is this young runner who looks like someone from the Old Testament.

I personally disagree. He's certainly not my favorite, although I do hope he does well. I can't relate to his flamboyant, image conscious persona. I see a little bit of Gabe in there, and that doesn't impress me. Don't try hard to be different, try hard to be fast.

I don't think many Americans know (or care) who he is either. I'll bet if you asked a bunch of Americans who Anthony Famiglietti is, most would say either a New York mob boss or the name of an Italian restaurant.

Face it, Fam hasn't done anything for non-obsessed people to care who he is. By my count, there are 22 people who have run the SC faster than him this year, and the fastest ran 19 seconds faster than Fam. And they're ALL on drugs? I don't think so.

Personally, my favorite US distance runner is Bernard Lagat--and I think that's going to be true nationwide during the Olympics--because he works his butt off and he wins. And when the Steeple rounds are being run, I'm going to be rooting for McAdams. Fam is just another American who doesn't train with the best in the world, probably doesn't work as hard as they do--and when the whole thing doesn't work, jog around and whine that everybody else is on drugs. And that's part of the reason why IF they show some distance running on TV, most everybody changes the channel.

Sad thing is that his 1500 PB is faster than the Kenyan who won the bronze inthe 1500 last year. I guess that means Fam's on drugs, too?
