Even if not, will Webb be there - just in case?

USOC only pays if you are called upon to compete.
It beooves an athletes sponsor to have the 4th placer on hand - more logo face time the better.
so USA pays Webb as well??
i thought his sponsor, Nike, pays him>??
that doesnt make since.
Alternates do not go. They keep training for the next month in case someone gets hurt.
Chances are they are going to keep training because they are going to Europe to keep competing. They are professional track athletes and that is what they do during the summer. The US Trials are not the end of the road.
if leer gets the 1500m a next week and lomong is hurt in two weeks and can't run
would they send webb or leer?
I would assume webb

How late would we be allowed to switch an alternate in for one of our top three it they got injured? Do we have to declare our athletes early, or can we make last minute switches if someone gets injured shortly before their event (or if someone who is in two events decides to drop their second)? The policy of not sending alternates only makes sense to me if there is no way that they would end up running. If they'd still be allowed to run if someone got injured, I can't imagine why we would have this policy.
Athlete declarations happen at the Trials, Webb has already been named the alternate. It's too late for Leer to get a time that would put him on the team, even as an alternate.
USOC credentialed any of the top 6 A in each event that showed up at the Processing Center at Trial HQ- just in case.
