His raw skills are unparalleled. His technique is embarrassing. How can you practice one event for half a decade and consistently stutter step the last hurdles? Is the routine that difficult or is he just dense?

I actually think it's possible to be too tall, and have too long a stride length, for this event.
I used to always say the same thing about Michael Jordan. He practiced for I don't know how many years and he still used to miss jump shots from time to time!
He has the build of Edwin Moses, but not the stamina, and his 13-step breaks down at the end.
He seems to have the best speed in between the hurdles but the worst technique in clearing any of them. Then he 'looks' lazy at the end of every race seemingly jogging to the line (cost him a bronze last Olympics). But hey he is a WC.

Did you not hear the announcers? Clement had the huge advantage over Jackson because he's so tall and Jackson's so short.
Oh, wait...

Horrible sarcastic analogy.

Clement did not run in the last olympics, it was the 2005 World Championships. That being said, he did basically come to a complete stop before the last hurdle last night.
agreed, that doesn't make any sense.
to me his biggest problem is that he tries to 13 step each hurdle the whole way around. by the time you hit hurdle ten, you are running on empty and your hurdle technique will be hit hard. if he gives it a go at 15 steps for the last few hurdles so he doesnt have to switch lead legs, but if he can switch legs even bumping down to 14 steps for steps for the last few hurdles would bring him to the last hurdle in a stronger phase. jackson runs 15-17 strides in between hurdles which seems to suit most runners better. if youve never run the 400h then its hard to comprehend the pain and focus you need on that last hurdle, but thats my own opinion.
