yes, they can read and go through every conversation you have.
I think it's considered a wire tap and therefore illegal without a warrant?
I guess it depends on if you're using Cable/DSL/phone.
I know they have different laws depending on the connection type. Hence why more people are busted for downloading music using DSL than Cable. Phone companies fork over your files all the time. Cable companies are less likely.

Correct. A warrant would be one way. A subpoena can also be used to obtain phone/computer records from a third party vendor. These are MUCH easier to obtain than a warrant. I work for the feds, and these companies will not provide us information unless we have either a warrant or a subpoena. Once we give them one, they are very happy to share their information.
why what have you been up to?
I hope this is like dateline when they're catch child predators and interview them. Then they release them and the guys think they're ok....but really the fed's are outside.
