Dogman, and you are a big time high school coach where? Until you reveal that info, you have no credibility in anything you say.
Now to the point
I don't know Joe Newton so I cannot comment on that. What I can comment on is that he has had many state championship teams but not very many individual state champions. One way to look at it is that none of his runners accomplish much after high school. The other way is to way is that joe got the most out of them in high school.
He gets 100 guys out on that team every year. I would venture to say that atleast 60-70 of them would not be running at other schools. noone has mentioned the thousands of other coaches that don't want to put in an effort to get kids out for cross country. Joe has made that place a family and a community achievement.
Lets name some of the current elite runners that came from that state. Ed Torres, Jorge Torres, Tim Broe, Robert Gary, and Don sage are the top 5. May be others but i don't know of them as top natioanl guys.
Joe has never had a 2 time state champion (Dage place 2nd to torres though so he would have if not for him) He has had 2 in the last 8 and zero the 10 years before that. I will add that He did also go 1-2-3 one of those years, but it ws also a slower year.
People claim that with his great success he is supposed to be popping out these top college and national level runners. What about the dozens if not hundred of runners that have beaten his top 2 guys over the last 15-20 years. 3 of them are listed above (Gary was not that great in HS). If these guys had such great college potencial didn't the guys who beat them have great college potencial. Are their coaches terrible as well. Why aren't they great runners when you expect people they beat to be great runners?
Check the links below and you can see how many other athletes don't make it. Even ones who are state champions.
