When will man run three consecutive 4 minute miles?
When will man run three consecutive 4 minute miles?
I do that for workouts.... repeats of them. But as soon as races come around i can only run like 16 minute 5k's. Im a better trainer than i am a racer.
It could/will happen about the same time as a 3:39 mile and a 1:39 800. All require about the same % improvement in WR's.
Can anyone say "gene doping"?
I'll do it tomorrow after I drop off the dry cleaning.
how about the 12 minute 4800, that is more plausible and it would be very interesting to see someone run under 60 12 times.
Given that the 5000m is the standard track distance, I think we're a lot more likely to see milestone times in the 5000m before we see them in the 3 mile or the 4800 (unless the 3 mile or 4800 milestone occurs in the course of a 5000m event). In terms of "milestonicity," I'd put the 12:30 5000m right next to the 12 min 3mile. I think we'll see that happen within the next 30 years.
It'd be cool to see, but lets have someone else get under 8 for 2 miles, first. Only one person has done it and it was a while ago.

you can only run 'like' 16 minute 5's? Isn't that the same as actually running 16 minute 5k's? Or are you running a simulation of sort, hence the word 'like'?

Are you f***ingg retarded? Get a f***ingg life.
It'll be a long time:
1) Only 2 men in history have broken a 7:25 3K (3:59/mile), and neither did it in this century.
2) Komen's awesome 7:20 is still "only" 3:56/mile over a 3K.
3) The fastest 5K in history would need to be about 1 sec/lap faster. For every lap, that is a LOT, especially off of a WR.
4) El G, Lagat, Komen, Bekele & Geb couldn't come close to a 4:00/mile 5K... unless you consider 13 seconds close. At that level, it's far away. What kind of tools will the 12 min/3 miler need, that they didn't have?? Freakish ones.
What has been the fastest split at 4000M? 10:04.xx? You'll most likely see a sub-ten 4000 before a sub-12 3 miles.
