Don't get it. Webb could beat this field by 2 seconds. What is the point?
This should be good... He should be able to get some good speed work in a race in which he should be very competitive. (I'd say he's the class of the field, but after last week, I'm not convinced he's in great shape).
Maybe a nice, reasonably fast 800 win is just what the doctor ordered.
The lists are not finalized, so not everyone who might be racing are listed.
It is also rumored that Lukezsic and Willis will be there too.
Jeez...You guys are HILARIOUS! Webb has run 1:43.9 (basically 1:44) ONE TIME with a 2nd best time of 1:46 mid and the letsrun community views him as a 1:43 guy in a class above these guys.
Webb ran his super fast 800m last year in peak form. He is not at the same level of fitness he was in last year, nor is he sharp.
1:48.0-1:49.2....or DNF. He won't win either.
Take it to the bank.

Killa Mike, you may want to review his times from last year.
Sorry I was working from the top of my head. 1:43.84. Previous best set that same season of 1:45.80.
Prior to last season he was 1:46 mid.
Thanks for the correction, the prediction still stands.

I agree and disagree. He will not DNF! he might fail to show, however. Based on Pre, he should be able to run 1:47 to 1:48. If he does not break 1:48 then I would admit he's in trouble. It would be much better if he is in condition to run 1:46.xx.
I think you're right about the DNF. I hope he doesn't, that was negative of me. A 1:47~ would be a great sign going into the trials with his strength.
Jimmy Wyner in the 800---it's show time!
I'm fairly sure that he's just trying to duck Jimmy Wyner in the 15.
What could Reese Hoffa do for the 800?

Come on, this is the race he's been getting ready for.
And, when he blows this one, he's just getting ready for the next one.
Webb may be up and down but keep in mind his range is second to said auito only. he is a tremendous md runner. the race at pre was a good start. everyone else has been racing from december/january. he will be the same runner we saw last year just when it counts. sure 3:50 at the pre race would have been nice but 3:29 at bejing is the goal i commend him for holding off and going for the gold. if webb raced all spring like the others he would have ran 3:47 or whatever and won. i see 1:46-1:47. i see top 3 trials and top three at finals in bejing with a repeat 3:30 in the mddle somewhere. why knock him ...IN TERMS OF DISTANCE RUNNERS ALAN WEBB IS THE BEST WE HAVE ON THE SCENE! have a little faith fellas

I agree with dumdum...despite how that sounds.

Yeah, his goal was to finish next to last at Pre. He's right on target!!
Just when does he race "when it counts?"
I for one, am really happy to see this. He looked so flat at Pre. A 800 will force him to compete and hopefully knock over some rust at the same time. I do hope Willis shows and if he does, he will own.
sorry, but it wasn't like he raced the 800 a ton of times. He ran it once a little before his peak races right after showing up in Europe and ran 145 and then ran on more in 143. If he had to he could have run it a few more times.
If he runs slower than 146 he is lacking fitness. Hopefully these guys get rolling and he can bust sub-146. That would be pretty awesome!
I predict he will be at 1:46 letting no one else beat him.
smart choice by webb.
He needs to have some wheels in him this year.
out of the last 4 major championships he has only made 1 final - and finished 8th in that one. to get to the bejing final he'll need to be faster than he has ever been. remember silva closed in 1:46 in athens and that was for 3rd.
my point is - a time trial 1500m runner will always struggle in the games. you need to be able to kick off a good pace. lets hope webby develops that now
