When and where can the NCAA Div. 1 at-large T&F bids be found?
Selections are being done in Indianapolis right now. They will be finished, and put up on the NCAA website by around 3:00pm Tuesday. It is a complex process due to all the at-large individuals who have great regular season marks.
Is there a minimum number of at-large selections per event?
20, usually 26 per event... i am sitting at 27th :-(
well they'll be on TV so no worries!
We start with a minimum of 24 in each event, and 18 in the relays. We then add by row, going across all 21 events until we can not add a complete row. We then go to a priority list and add one athlete (or relay) by that priority list until we reach the cap of 544 athletes per gender. The priority list is the best events during the year, and athletes/relays are added based on regular season best performance. So someone who finishes 9th in a region can get chosen ahead of someone who finished 6th in that same event in the same region. Once the automatic qualifiers are added everyone else (the at-large) athletes go into the pool of possible at-large selections. Again, it is a very complex process since if an athlete is already in the meet in one event, and they are the next to be added to another event (but won't add to the cap of 544) they will get chosen. It takes a group of 10 people, with two computer experts about 2 days to put everything together.
What about the 10,000m? How many qualify, and does the selection come out with the other events today?
Just posted the list at 12:36pm. The minimum number taken was 25 and then athletes were added based on performance.
