Jorge jumped out quickly and ran with a mission from gun to tape, running in the very low 24s. CU men beat WSC by 1 point. CU top 5 in order: J. Torres, E. Torres, Slattery, Nelson, Severy.

Sounds like Jorge is trying to show everybody something. Can Kip, and Boaz stay with him in November?

He better hope its not windy at nationals he might blow away
It got windy at the Shootout today.
Jorge looked incredible today, but it just wasn't the same not having Ritz right on his shoulder.
WSC is so deep on the men's AND women's side. They're tough. I'm surprised CU pulled out the 1 point win.

On the back of the latrines at Buffalo Ranch.
If you can't see them from where you are, then just wait until someone puts them up on a website, like this one
http://cubuffs.ocsn.com/sports/c-xc/colo-c-xc-body.htmlor this one
http://www.boulderroadrunners.org/results/index.htmlor even this one
http://bouldernews.com/bdc/sports/0,1713,BDC_2398,00.htmlThe other story about the meet was Wetmore methodically raking loose gravel from the dirt road that leads to the finish. Looks like he moved small rocks from the last 300 yards of the course.
I think the CR is 23:56 by Goucher, maybe Jorge broke the meet record for the Shootout. I didn't see the final time, but I think Jorge was just over 24 flat.
He looked awesome, though, ran by himself the entire way. Led by 10 seconds at 1+ over an over-his-head Western guy, who came back to Torres #2. The guy is running for a title, and he's got a shot, but it will be a battle.
Great meet though, good competition, and I thought for sure WSC had won from 400m to go, I guess Billy Nelson kicked down several guys to give CU the win.
How does this, from CU's website, add up to a one point win over WSC?

Old CR was 24:12, run in 1998 by A.G. Jorge Torres's time today was around 24:08. Nelson had a blazing, gritty finish.
Two of the finishers in front of Severy were WSC's 8th and 9th men, and do not count in team scoring.
Wetmore raking gravel is analogous to some football coach that has won a national championship cutting the grass on the football field. Course, it Wetmore coached football, he would probably do that.
I am pretty certain that the course record was 24:12 by Goucher in 1998. I watched him race that day and it was unreal. Second place was Severy and he ran 25:11.
To put it in perspective: I at Big 12 at the Ranch two years ago when Torres ran 24:48 ... I remember standing at the finish line and looking at the clock when it hit 24:12 - and Torres was not even in site.
What were Torres splits? I did not see today's race, but when Goucher ran that - he was smoking from the start. Hubbard tried running with him, but backed off after 300 meters. Goucher hit that first mile in 4:50 (at most) - which is pretty nutty considering the entire Jawbone hill piece of it.
Breaking that course record is a big deal. Congrats to Mr. Torres. I am forced to wonder if Ritz will be the first break 24 on the Ranch course.
WOW! It looks like Jorge is in good shape. NCAAs will be interesting...
I saw Scottie Larson "White Shadow" run 24:20 solo out there the day Goucher ran so well. It may not be so tough a time after all.
Any women's results yet?

He's known to shovel the track when necessary, too.
Nevermind...they're posted on the CU site.

In what race did Scotty run that? Simon Moorlong won the Open race that day in 25:16 when Goucher ran 24:12.
Call the time what you will: it worked well enough that Goucher won Nats that year
