What would you rather get - any car you want for free, or free gas for the rest of your life?

Free gas, f***face. It's ain't even a question.

It's a close call, but I'd take the gas. The NPV of my lifetime gas consumption is about $30,000.

There are some nice cars out there, but none worth more than $30k to me, even including the maintenance.

I don't much care about cars at all, so I'd take the gas. Easy pick.

Gas, the no sale rule makes the car less appealing.

Just to fill up my Honda Accord this past week it cost me $59 ($3.94/gallon). I probably fill it once every 1.5 weeks. That's $2,000 per year in gas.

I'd take the gas.

Change the question, Free fuel (gas for car, heating your home) for life or a $100,000 toward a house? If you think about it some one spending $2,000 a year on gas for a honda is not bad. most people have SUV's and are locked in for a couple of years and gas will only go up. Even in this situation I take the free fuel. Im sure some one in the city though would take the $100,000.

Also the person that picked the car should really look into there thought pattern. With free fuel you open your wallet to buy that car and the money saved on fuel pays for the car. a lease on a honda accord is $199 a month after taxes all the good junk the gov gets, comes to $269+/-. Leaving you to pay only 69 bucks

a free ferrari? i'll pay thousands in gas gladly to ride that pony.

first of all - i'd never be seen in an accord - ever. bad enough i let my wife drive that damn van.

second - i don't spend much more $200 in gas per month for 4 vehicles. suburbs, work at home, wife doesn't work, kids walk or ride bikes to schools.

more realistically, by going with something i'd buy anyway. i'd get a new porsche 911 targa 4s (have an older one already). i currently put less than 5000 miles a year on it, roughly 300 gallons of gas, roughly $1200 per year.

compare that with the cost of the lease at $1500 per month.

i'm ahead $17K per year. reduced to breaking even when gas gets to $60 per gallon. let me know when that happens. in the meantime, i'm having some fun!

I'd take a sweet ass car and rent it out to guys with small penises for $200/day. I figure I would have a customer every day in the summer so lets just say I can fill up 1/2 the days of the year. 180 x 200= 36000. That pays for a lot of gas. Any wear and tear on the car is repaired for free so basically I am going to get unlimited life out of the car.

There is a decent chance that in 10 years I won't be spending anything for gas because my car will be electric. At that point, free gas isn't going to look very interesting. I'll take the car. In fact, if I take the Tesla motors roadster then I won't be paying for gas *now*. I'll definitely take the car.

Is this kind of like the choice between a large lump sum of money now (car) or an annuity that lasts my lifetime (free gas forever).

Throw in the car insurance and it's a deal!

While I respect your point about wanting to live life and drive fast (I like going fast too), you clearly DO care what other people think, because you said you would never be caught dead in an Accord. It's OK, we all do it. I wouldn't be caught dead sporting a mullet because of what other people will think and I'm not ashamed of that fact. But I will call you on your bullshit.
