Assistant. I'm sure he isn't payed by the university. He probably just shows up to the practices to run with the guys because his coach is the same coach at Air Force. But who knows how accurate the article is, Hayes is in his first year at Air Force, not second, he was at NAU last year.
This is just to keep everything OK with NCAA rules to let him work out at the track with the other athletes. I doubt he "coaches" anyone.
