I am really impressed by Will Leer and Boaz Cheboiywo. Impressed by everyone but especially those two, I didnt know Boaz had that type of speed and that is a nice PR by Will.

Six wins from six races in 08; he looked very relaxed today. Seems pretty confident, seems right where he needs to be at this time of year. anyone knows is he running NY? Mile at Pre?

As everyone probably knows Will Leer, like Nick Symmonds is a former D3 prodigy. He ran about a 2 second PR today, and keeps on improving. Would not be suprised if he runs 3:36 at the trials.

WOW! Old man Sullivan is hanging in there!!

That is a Canadian "A+" standard for Sullivan. If I understand the Athletics Canada qualifying standards properly, it looks like he will be going to Beijing. (Assuming, of course, that he can finish in the top 4 at the Canadian trials, which, barring injury, should be no problem.)

When did Sullivan first run sub-3:36? I know he ran a 3:52 mile in 1995.

Brannen also seems to be getting fit again.

Almost pales by comparison to the Womens race, with a solo 4:01.5 for Rowbury.

Sully didn't look "old" at all.

In fact, with out a few little tie ups at 250m or so, he would have won, or definitely challenged for it.

He ran a 3:35.77 in July 1995. He ran a 3:36.78 in 1994, a time that's just short of the Olympic standard for this year (3:36.60).

Lagat looked so smooth at the end. It looked like everyone else was kickin it in hard, and Lagat was just cruising.

My thoughts are Webb is playing it right this year. Get a later start on things, don't show your hand.

Because Lagat is Kenyan.

Becuase I am a fan of Sullivan and gesturing that runners can still compete at that age and not just "anomalies" (like most people will think) like Lagat.

I think that part of it is that Sullivan was a child prodigy while Lagat was a late bloomer. Sullivan ran 1:53 for 800m when he was 14 and sub-4 (or the 1500m equivalent) while in high school.

As mentioned above, Sullivan first ran 3:36 in 1994. I think he ran 3:37 in 1992. He was 5th at the World Championships in 1995. When did Lagat first run 3:37 or better? 1998?

Sullivan may not be much older, but he has been running at a world-class level much longer.

(None of which is to say that Lagat's longevity is not impressive. And, it goes without saying, he has had a much better career than Sullivan.)
