Reebok Games Bus Rip Off?

This does not seem to be sufficient grounds for complaint. It's not easy to get to Ichan Stadium. The bus service being provided is a great convenience.

I dont mind them charging a fee necessarily, but they should Definitely have more options than just ONE bus way up on the upper east side. Icahn stadium is pretty much impossible to get to from anywhere. Would it kill them to run shuttles from a couple hubs for a few hours, grand central or penn station, queens plaza. I dont understand why Randall's island doesnt try to get some sort of permanent mta transportation onto the island instead of just ONE bus all the time.

I agree, it would be worth paying extra for a bus that was running from Grand Central or the west side, etc. But this is the same bus that currently stops at Lex and 125th and goes to the stadium.

Why would I do this, rather than take the regular M35 bus, that I can transfer to from the subway for free?

Before they built Icahn I could walk a little over a half mile north to a bus that went from Queens over the Triboro, the first stop was at Downing.[total travel 2.45 miles] Now I have to walk east 300m take a subway south and west into Manhattan change trains go north to 125 St then get a bus over the bridge to Icahn.[total travel a tad over 8 miles]

Benepe (NYC Parks Commish-in charge of the island) runs when he sees me- I have spoken to him so much about getting better service or at least go back to what it was. The Randalls Island Sports Commission knows the wineturtle name and his agenda as does my district Rep, Congressman, Boro Prez etc. MTA has not addressed any of my letters or e-mails save the first one 5 years(?) ago informing me that a study would be done when the stadium was completed. City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr and I laugh every time we see each other about the whole issue-even he gets an MTA runaround on this.

BTW if any one is driving to Long Island after the meet I would love a lift to the Queens side of the bridge. Buy you a 3 starcoal fired brick oven pizza if you care to stop for a snack.

Educated guess: the dedicated buses will loop 125-Icahn with no fare collection on return. While the regular bus will do 125-(Icahn?)-Wards Island-(Icahn?)-125. I suspect more to appease the city hospital staff who use that route.Although the MTA has a publised timetable in truth that bus is more intune with shift changes at the city facilities on Wards 95% of the time. It will eliminate that backlog when the meet breaks. The busses will be happily idling while awaiting the crowd making it a lot less hectic getting home- no fare collection so you can mount from all doors.

Really even during its open season 103 st bridge only works if you live on UES.

Totally off topic but New York City is so exciting. I was just google earthing it & realised it's been 6 years since I've been (I'm in the UK). Have some good memories from that month. Doesn't time fly.

Are you seriously complaining about paying 5 bucks to get a bus right to the door step of the stadium. The meet is going to be awesome and global athletics are putting together better fields than last year (which was amazing btw).

It cannot be cheap to hire constant shuttle buses from 125th to the stadium, and while it would be better to have more options i'm sure this is just the start of what will become a more efficient event in the future. This is the east coast prefontaine except putting it on in NYC is more challenging than putting it on in Eugene. But you can always pay the $400 flight to Oregon, which makes 5 bucks seem very reasonable.

Completely agree. Wouldn't round trip with a Metrocard be $4 and subject you to a bus full of psychopath's going to the hospital on the island. That actually sounds more attractive than a bunch of track geeks reviewing trials top 50 lists.

I've gone to the meet the last two years and taken the 6 train to the M35. Even with a couple of crazy psych patients and plenty of fanatic running geeks never had a problem. Leaving the stadium wasn't a huge hassle either as the busses filled up and got going without a long wait.
