Shoes that are appropriate to the particular footstrike, gait, and level of training of each.
If you look on the nike page interviews she mentions 3 or 4 shoes she wears to train in and also mentions that she previously wore orthotics. If I remember correctly all of the shoes were rather light trainers or racers.
The same page has Shalane stating she wears elites and pegs and Laget actually stated that he also wears the elites and pegs. Read the site and correct me if I'm wrong.
