ok - i'm a dad (36 y/o) who gets most of my training in on a TM, while my wife is at work and my kid is watching a disney movie. last summer i ran a 5k after not running for 6 weeks and drinking 18 beers the day before in a low 19 min. i have been doing a little outside running and some TM running that adds up to 25-30 mi a week. i've been doing a steady diet on the TM of sustained runs @ 6:00 pace and long intervals ( 1200m ) @ 5:20/mi pace. I ran a 5k this weekend in 18:40 range. i enjoy running. i don't train to fill a schedule. i do it so i don't blow my head off or blow up my liver. but....you would think i would improve a little more than 25 f-ing seconds given the fact that i didn't drink 18 beers the day before the race. and ran intervals for 2 months on the TM. btw, my pr from HS (7 y/o)was a 16:58.
I just wanted to put this out there to reinforce the specifity of training concept (and bitch about my sh*tty time ) when it comes to TM's and while they are better than nothing, they don't get it done on the short races. proceed with insults. thank you.
