Whilst in Washington DC, I was running around georgetown, actually near the georgetown running company, over near 34th street. It was really one of my very first runs in this part of the city. I mistakenly took a turn on the whitehurst freeway, thinking that there would be a sidewalk somewhere along the way. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid
Needless to say, there is NO sidewalk along the freeway, and I spent about two minutes running along until I figured out that I really needed to turn around. I considered getting off at the next offramp, but I figured it was better to go back the way I came.
I basically sprinted over the concrete divider in the center, so that I could face oncoming traffic... to my luck, there wasnt that much traffic, and I made it off in time.
I guess it's not that scary of a story to tell to people, but it's probably one of the scariest things that has happened to me on a run. I mean, all if would've taken would have been one driver not really watching the road, and I would've been toast.
whew!
