Best way to get into teaching (science) with a BS degree but no teaching creds?

Most states have such a severe shortage of science teachers that they will hire people like you. After hired, you will have to take night (and maybe summer) classes to fulfill requirements for a teaching certificate. I had physics and math degrees, but no teaching credits, and was hired in a heartbeat. That was in North Carolina.

Most states have a non-traditional program where you take a couple of classes during the summer and you become a full time teacher while you work on a couple of classes. After 2 years you have a teachers license.

Google is your friend.

Work for an independent school (a private school). They can hire anyone they want, so you do not need to be certified. It's a definite plus if you can coach competently. Also, placement agencies will search for jobs for you, free of charge (the school that hires you pays the fee). Check out Carney Sandoe. I know they work in the north east.

Boarding school. Private schools don't care about state certifications, just that you have a mastery of the material you're going to teach. If you can coach multiple sports (think XC & track), and don't mind living in a dorm (think free rent & food), they'll be interested.

Move to Baltimore City. They will hire you with similar deal to the one mentioned in the previous post. Pay is OK too. But it is High Hazard!!
