If he ran in Boston today instead of London.
If he ran in Boston today instead of London.
Cheruiyot would have dropped him like a wet fish.
No, Ryan would not have won. Maybe 3rd
That would be a big fat NO.
he mighta took second though.
the big cheese would have rolled to victory in beantown, if you think otherwise you are giving too much credit to the 'challenging' terrain. Also, the way the race was paced as perfectly suited to hall.
hell yea he would have won
I think he would have stayed with Robert much longer than anyone else did in the actually race and maybe have taken second. Remember the Boston course is worth 2 minutes of your time in comparison to flatter course like: Chicago, London, and Berlin. The 2 minute difference has been mentioned numerous time over the last 5 years by Boston race commentators and some elite runners.
So Robert's winning time at Boston would equate: 2:05:46 on a flatter course and remember at one point LATE in the race he was on sub 2:06 pace in Boston (sub 2:04 on flat, fast marathon). The guy is a great fast marathoner now I would like to see him in the Olympics or Worlds!!!
If your just going to subtract 2 minutes because the course id tought to make and justify that at one point in the race he was on sub 2:04 pace why 2 minutes into the race say he was on 0 minute pace.
It would be the same flaw in logic.
This would have been a perfect race for the Big Cheese to take down. Perhaps Cheruiyot is in solid form but Hall could have sat and kicked at that type of pace.
No...it really doesn't work like that at all...
So you're saying that Hall and the 4 guys who beat him in London are all better than Cheruiyot?
Interesting theory. False, but interesting.
2:06:17 at london=2:07:37? in Boston as the Oly trials proved that hills are no problem for Hall. I think he would have ran a faster time the Cheruiyot did but Cheruiyot would have outkicked Hall, running sub 2:07:30 in the process. I don't see Hall outkicking Cheruiyot nor do I see him running away from him. Cheruiyot dominated the race and ran a lot of it alone and still ran 2:07...

I don't think I could have put it more eloquently than that.
lets see lel vs cheiruyt vs wanjiru vs bekele at a marathon soon....

You are a failed logician.
Boston is a difficult course BECAUSE of the downhills. You'll find that many runners get to Heartbreak hill at record pace. From Heartbreak to the finish it is nothing but downhill, and it destroys bodies.
No one knows how Hall would have responded to the final 7 miles at boston.
So why would anyone be subtracting 2 minutes till the end after the hard part of the course is over?
I doubt it, Cheruiyot is really a money racer, and a 2:07:3x o n that course without much competition/paces is fast. Hall would be up for second though, I think.
There is no doubt Hall would have been in contention. Would he have won? Of course not. Would he have made a race out of it? Damn right he would. The Big Cheese may not have a major win under his belt (or even a top 3 finish), but he has the grit and zeal of a young up and coming. Don't think for a second that the kings of the road would overlook Hall and drop him like a wet fish. They would drop him like an unwanted child--with a bit of trepidation that he might catch up with them down the road.
