Regina Jacobs -- outstanding role model

Great freudian slip here.

RJ has been a doper since 1986, when she sliced ~10 seconds off of her 1500m best. She did not finish higher than 6th in the NCAA 1500...two years later TAC champ.

I think all aspects of this cheats life should be questioned. Did she cheat her way through Stanford? What about earning her MBA from Cal? The IRS should do some audits on her as she is probably a tax cheat too.

Once a cheater always a cheater. I think I saw her towing the line an inch or two over at a meet one time too.

Dunes Runner - please give us your insights on the specific topic of Regina lying and cheating her way through track and field ? Stealing medals and glory from other hard working athletes. Please enlighten me as to how this is being a good role model.

Of course if you merely seeking to get a rise out of people - go ahead but if you firmly believe that Regina is a good role model please expand upon the above

Misinformed, definitely. Misguided, yes. Insecure, obviously.

Cheating is doing something that interferes with another competitor.

Regina has not done that.

Whether she took TXQ or whatever, and whether the rest of you take IBU or Sudafed or Aspirin or drink coffee or whatever, is of no consequence or importance to me.

yes, my allegra has done wonders for my running. it has propelled my times to places I'd never get without its daily usage.

please put me in the same category as Roidgina.

Regina uses steroids and then attempts to claim that they were acceptable, in spite of the fact that the law says these compounds are, by extension of the chemical properties of already banned substances, banned, did nothing wrong. How many of these definitions above does that fit? I'd say at least 4.

So Regina is a role model to you because even though she takes drugs and cheats, her cheating doesn't hurt anyone else. But at the same time you feel Paula Radcliffe is a drug cheat to the highest degree and should be banned from the face of the earth? Please explain.

If I'm not mistaken, Jacobs made several national teams, and in the process took national team spots from other competitors. I'm quite sure that those other runners would consider this "interference".

if drugs make you a world class runner...just give EPO to american long distance runners, and THEY WILL RUN LIKE KENYANS AND ETHIOPIANS.

While drugs may surely have accounted for some of Regina's progress,and her ability to win two World Indoor titles and two silvers outdoors, I'm not so sure they would entirely account for her wide margin over non-Suzy Americans who have a hard time breaking 4:08. Don't attribute everthhing to drugs. There should be some clean 4:03 and 4:04 1500 runners out there. Why aren't there?

And she accepted travel stipends, insurance, development funds, etc. All could have been used by someone who needed them and didn't cheat to get them.

You get to running 4:03-4:04 after you run at 4:10 for awhile and you see that sub 4:05 will make an international team, so you hang in there even though you are 24 or 25.

A few Olympics ago, Darlene Beckford ran 4:05 for 1500 meters in the Olympic trials. Didn't make the team. Some in front of her had tested positive, but it was swept under the rug. She retired from the sport. Nobody cared: they had stars like Mary Slaney and Regina Jacobs to cheer for.

But when you're running 4:10 and you see a 39 year old woman run 3:59 you think you are not in the hunt.

Jacobs is not the only one out there deceiving people.

Was she a role-model when she shoved and swore at Sonia O'Sullivan AFTER a World Champs 1500m race in the tunnel leaving the track? That was a few years ago but I remember thinking that RJ must be on some serious drugs just for reacting in that manner.
