I think for someone doing 800/1500 specific training, especially 35-55 mpw, the Daniels' x2.2 method works pretty good. Basically it's your 800 time x 2.2 = mile time. So a 2:00 800 would be 120x2.2=264 or a 4:24 mile. So yeah, about 4:06.xx for the 1500. I'd think that anyone who runs under 2:00 in the 800 would see 4:05 as pretty achievable.

Extrapolation of the 2.2 method (rounded to nearest second):

1:58 - 4:19 (4:02)

1:56 - 4:15 (3:58)

1:54 - 4:11 (3:54)

1:52 - 4:06 (3:50)

1:44 - 3:48 (3:32) - seems to work for Webb's time too

In high school I never broke 4:30 in the mile but did run a 1:56.3 800m split. College I have ran PR's of 1:58 in the 800m and 4:06 in the 1500m.

I often wonder why I haven't ran a faster 800m than I did in high school (4 years later). Perhaps longer training and time has taken some of the pop out of my legs. Perhaps smarter training keeps me more consistent and less likely to have up and down races.

according to that calculator i should be able to jump 2.15 off my 800m time.

2:00 = 4:29-30 for high school, 4:26 for grownups.

you need to have 1 more time ( your simultaneous best open 400 at the time with our 800 )

( i don't really feel that the figures with 56s or slower are worth considering as you are approaching the impossible situation of almost running your 400 pb for 2 laps ! )

i call his 1'43.8, ~ 1'43.5 that day if ideally run ( iirc he ran ~ 50.0 / 53.8 that day - anyhows, with generally accepted convention that most 800pbs are run off 2s differential ( his was 3.8 ! ), it's commonsense to believe that if he'd gone out nearer 51s, then he wouda come back a lot quicker than 53.8

1'43.5 is probably still an underestimate, but it's a nice "round" figure to use

anyhows i've not read any open 400 times for him last year, so with a bit of trial 'n' error, trying various 400s with his 1'43.5 to look for a line of fit

it's just that at cutting-edge, elite guys want something better, but in webb's case your rule of thumb woud work well for him

The first time I ran sub 2 (1:59.8) I ran 4:05 (a pr) a few weeks after so I’d say they were pretty accurate

I'm that type and it worked almost perfectly for me (1:52.0, 3:44.6)

I think I had more speed, but couldn't seem to put it in an 800...
