My teammates and I have been having a debate recently about the relative values of 1500 times vs 800 times. Specifically, we are arguing the equivalent 1500/full mile performance to a sub 2 800 meter performance. According to the McMillan running calculator, a 1:59 800 is equivalent to a 4:05 1500 while a 2:00 800 is a 4:07. The Mercier calculator puts a 1:59.9 800 at a 4:05.6 1500. Personally, these values seem a little skewed. I think that a sub 2 800 is easier than a 4:05 1500 (4:23-4:24 for the mile); others insist that these performances are equivalent and I am merely trying to assuage my own massive feelings of inadequacy for being unable to go under 2 minutes. So, I turn to the letsrun community; what 1500 or mile race performance is equivalent to a sub 2 800 meter effort?
