I have ran 3-4 H/M per year in the past and I can always follow someone to the finish. But, now, my fitness has improved and when I go to a local H/M race, the situation has been like: There is 1 really fast runner in front of me follows the police car and I am distance 2nd and I always got lost because I can not remember every turn on the course and end up running shorter (get DQed) or longer (with a slower time).
I am sure there are someone on this board is in this situation (runner up). My question is: How do you handle this kind of situation? I thought of driving the course several times before it, but most of them have a section that is not drivable. Do you print a course direction and carry it with you - which you will need to slow down to figure it out.
I would really appreciate if anyone can share their experiences/thought on this.
