Amazing for a 7.5 mile muddy XC race
Only the top 53 averaged faster than 5:00 per mile...
The last 8 finishers were slower than 5:30 per mile
What were these guys doing at world cross??
It seems like there would be more guys running a faster pace in an International competition
I know it's 12km and muddy, but 5:30? come on. Someone explain this
I know the 7th-to-last guy has pb's of 3:51, 14:20, 30:31, and 1:09.
Not world class by any stretch, but it's not like he sucks...

Well, usually the person who has the fastest time or averages the best pace per mile wins the XC race so it means just a little bit.
Did anyone see that guy near last place whose name is Silly Gaylord? I didn't look at many other threads, so it could have already been mentioned numerous times. i couldn't believe it though...
I think it's actually Gaylord Silly, he was running for the Seychelles I believe. He was singled out by the commentators at the race, sounds like the local press had picked up on the comedy name and he become a bit of a cult hero.
As for why the guys at the back were running so slowly, I think you'll find they were representing countries that aren't exactly major forces in cross-country running.

You couldn't be more correct - they mean NOTHING, but 4:38 per mile on that course is just plain SICK.
He didn't average 4.38/mile, the course was not measured accurately.
