it's fine. John Kellogg recommends strides to keep in touch with speed; so does Jack Daniels. Just keep them fast and relaxed, not hard. Strides are mostly about developing mechanics.
we always ended our workouts like that under Joe Douglas and I assume that he, Beatty, Schul, Tabori and others, always ended their workouts like that under Igloi. Don't know if it helped, but it sure couldn't hurt.
I try to finish off afternoon runs with them, but I won't do them the day before a speed workout, or if I'm feeling really crappy.
