Hi all,
The last 8 weeks or so Ive been training for the Great Ireland Run 10k. I have been running 4 times a week. I started off running 3k and gradually built that up to 7.5k. My personal goal for the 10k is to run it in sub 45 mins. On 16th March I ran a 5k road race in 21.46. Since then I have run 2 10k runs. The first 2 days after the 5k race, which I ran in 46.30. Then 4 days later (last saturday) I ran it in 46.15. I had planned to run another 10k on the monday, then a 5k on the thursday and then another 10k the following saturday, and then wind down for the final week before the race on April 6th.
However, I woke up last monday with a horrible sore throat. I've been treating it the same as I have any sore throat, by using a special gargle remedy that always works. However it has lingered for the last 3-4 days now. It hurts my thoat and ear anytime I swallow, and in the last 24 hours, my nose has become blocked.
Becaise of this I havent been able to train, as I dont want to risk making it worse. However it appears to be lingering and I'm getting very frustrated with it now as I want to get back training. I was hoping to be back running this Saturday but I'm starting to doubt whether it will happen. It may be Monday before I can run again, and the race is only 6 days after that.
I'm really concerned that this absense of training is going to set me back a long way. I've been quite demoralised the last day or so. I put so much effort into this, and to not be able to run to the best of my ability would be very dissappointing.
Any words of advice would be most appreciated. How should I adapt my training? Will it set me back as much as I think it will?
Thanks
