I'm sorry brojos, but running 5 legal sub-9.80's is way more badass than two WC golds.
So Gay has won a couple races. That doesn't make him better overall, that just makes him better on that particular day.
The fact remains that Powell is the faster sprinter.
Think about it: what would you prefer, to be able to say that you ran faster than 7 guys who were in a race with you once, or that you beat everyone who's ever stepped onto a track?
Gold medal... 9.74.... gold medal.... 9.74.....
You know what, I'll take the 9.74.
Alot of guys have won gold medals, but only one guy has ever run 9.74.
\What you fail to realize is that Powell has gotten lucky and Gay has gotten unlucky. Their top marks are about even (slight edge to Gay?) once you control for wind, etc. In fact, until the day he set the WR, Powell had ZERO of the top 5 or 6 marks in the world (Gay had 2 or 3).
When you take this into account, along with the fact that not only has Gay beaten Powell when it mattered, but that Powell has failed repeatedly at the top level, Powell's 'superiority' is questionable.
I would say that they are about even, but realize also that one of these two is doubling and the other cannot and that is the final clue as to which is the better sprinter.
