I read Chris Lear's mentioning this new running shop. Anybody know anything about this new store? where is it? what do they do? just watches or what?

I think they do the repairs for Nike watches and maybe some others?
This place is the absolute worst. I think that they had something going with Nike, because Nike made you send your watch to them for repair. They overcharged ($45) for a battery. I have heard a hundred horror stories.
right you are better off looking for the local watch maker. For example my computer recently broke down. Brought it to the officaial Toshiba dealer quoted $1,000. Which my dad suggested we bring it to a local computer guy who got it fixed for $200.
That is an absolutely false statement. There's no service center in the country even capable of dealing with Nike watches. I don't even think Parsec sets the prices, Nike does. And what's more, a battery change does NOT cost $45 at Parsec. Anyway, Parsec and Parsec Sports Timing are two different entities; Parsec sports is a retail shop out in Boulder Colorado, and I think their batter changes are 10-12 bucks.
I apologize to the folks in Boulder, I have never had any dealings with them. I have dealt with the one in Illnois and yes it was $45 for a change in battery (including shipping). The ridiculous part is that it went dead on me a second time 4 months later. I took it up to a local guy and he charged me $3 for a new battery and it is working fine a year later. The shop in Boulder doesn't have any ties with the one in Illinois? I am sorry. I assumed because of the same name that there must be some ties. I couldn't imagine that someone would choose to align themselves with the lousy name that the one in Illinois has already established in our running community.
Dudes if all you are looking for is a battery change go to Wal-Mart. $3.50 for the battery and they put it in for free. And yes I am talking about my Nike triax 300.
The companies are definitely one in the same, however the one in Boulder is the first retail store. The store is run by three runners, Justin Young, Donnie Frazen (formerly of the Hanson's ODP) and Dan Boniface (former Umiami runner). Young's Dad is the founder of both places. There was an article on the store in the Boulder Daily Camera. They specialized in Nike watch repair, as well as other timing devices, and heart monitors.

Then I stick with my original statement. BUYER BEWARE. I can tell you that Nike told me that I had to send it to Parasec or it wouldn't be covered by warranty. My local running store has a sign on the wall behind their Nike watches that reads:
QUESTION: What costs $45 but is only $3 at "Watchbands Etc."?
ANSWER: A battery for your Nike watch at Parasec's.
PLEASE DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS SHADY COMPANY.
I live in Chicago and their reputation is poor in our area. While on vacation in southern Florida, I wandered into a running shop and shared the above story with the storeowner. He laughed and said his experiences have been similar.
Oh come on. "No Way". There are a lot more important
problems than your Battery horror story to worry about. Sure our consumer policy is important, but there are more pressing problems at hand.
We have to end apartheid for one. And slow
down the nuclear arms race, stop terrorism and world
hunger. But we can't ignore our social needs. either We
have to stop people from abusing the welfare system. We
have to provide food and shelter for the homeless and
oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights while
also promoting equal rights for women but change the
abortion laws to protect the right to life yet still
somehow maintain women's freedom of choice.
We also have to control the influx of illegal
immigrants. We have to encourage a return to traditional
moral values and curb graphic sex and violence on TV, in
movies, in pop music, everywhere. Most importantly we have
to promote general social concern and less materialism in
young people.
Not a world problem, but we stopped using the company as well. Overpriced and lousy service.
please be informed before being critical. nike, yes NIKE sets the prices. I know this because I used to work in the watch industry. NIKE's like all those Yankee whores, the Starbucks imperial sluts; don't take it out on the small guys trying to do a service. Parsec isn't shady; Nike is. And whatsmore, I've sent a handful of watches to these guys and I've gotten em' back in under a weeks time. not everyone can be satisfied, all the time. chances are if you take your watch to wal-mart your watch will get internally raped and you won't even know it till some time later. believe me. it's not as easy as it seems.
$3 from the local guy and it has been over a year and still working fine. This is the longest it has worked since I bought it.
I think the point is that if NIKE is bad and someone chooses to contract to with NIKE then that would have to make you think twice about them. Remember every "imperial suit" had to have started on a much smaller scale. And the NIKE/Parsec phone run around about watch warranties is a very good tatic to negate everyone's warranty. The run around is that you call NIKE and they tell you that only Parsec has the authority to decide a warranty claim and then you call Parsec and they tell you that only NIKE has the authority to decide a warranty claim. It is an unconscionable practice. So I went back to a good old Timex.
Distance Freak: It's painfully obvious you're incredibly uniformed. And unjustifiably critical! Take your Nike to "Watchbands Etc.", to Wal-mart, hell- do it yourself. But be prepared to suffer the consequences though. Here's what happens. Just so you know. Billy Bob at Wal-mart takes your Nike, opens it, stretches the gasket which is a very thin rubber piece that seals the watch internally, can't get it placed properly back in the watch, therefore decides to be "shady" and leaves it out because they're NOT an authorized nike service center and therefore don't have the appropriate parts or the understanding of how to handle a watch properly at all. You get your watch back, obviously not knowing anything. You run and you sweat and the sweat slowly seeps through the back because there's a missing gasket thereby ruining the movement, which, I might add, would cost $45 to replace on a Triax 300 because essentially that's the cost of replacing the ENTIRE watch. More times than not people send their watch into a service center thinking it's just the battery when in fact the movement was damaged because you wore it in the shower, or Billy Bob at Wal-mart tried to replace the battery, OR because it was damage out of the factory, etc.
LISTEN: If watchbands etc. is charging $3 for a battery change on a Nike watch that's because they have no freaking clue what they're doing. None. And if that gasket is damaged at all, which is very very easy to do, you're out a watch.
Your local running store has resorted to unsubstantial slandor to boost their own business. Now...I don't know what you think, but I would call THAT "shady".
Thank you for your Time,
Rock on Parsec
Justin Young
It sounds like the 2 businesses are related. Best of luck Mr. Young. I guess I don't sweat much. It has been a year and my watch works fine after the $3 battery. Why did it only last 3 months after paying $45 at your place? WHICH BUSINESS IS SHADY AGAIN?
To all of you out there who can get your watch fixed for 3 bucks at Walmart, congratulations. However, claiming that Parsec runs a shady business because you got some pimple faced kid at Walmart to shred up your watch at a fraction of the price is absurd. The bottom line- Parsec is the only place in the US that is certified to fix these (Nike) types of watches. If you would like the work to be guaranteed, bring it to them.
Personally, I have had no problem with Parsec. In fact, I sent them a watch a few years ago that was in a complete state of disrepair, and I basically got a new watch back in the mail (so much for me having a horror story). They stand behind their work. If the item is under warantee, they will fix it- no matter what. Hey, if you don't like the prices they set, fine, do business elsewhere. But remember, cheaper is not necessarily better. I can get a pair of trainers at Walmart that look pretty good for 12 bucks, should I start wearing those instead of my Nike or Adidas trainers (Really, they look almost exactly like my regular trainers)? I think not.

Parsec Enterprises, Inc. has provided watch repair to watch owners, manufacturers and retailers for 27 years, having service over a million watches in that time. In the industry, and to people who know watches, our reputation is not questioned, our sport watch repair expertise, unequaled.
I openly invite anyone who questions our company's performance, quality, or business ethics to come to our facility for a tour and explanation of our operations. We welcome inquiries and visitors.
But first, I would ask that that person visit and talk with their local battery-changing retailer...Walmart or otherwise. We invite the comparison.
Indeed, I encourage the person who had the $45 battery change to provide me with a repair number so I can investigate this charge. We do not charge $45 for a straight up cell change. It is very important when comparing services that we compare apples with apples.
Watch services, particularly on sport watches, is a difficult business. It is a "problem" business. We don't get watches because people want us to check out how nicely they run...they are broken or not running and that is a problem we must solve. The materials, functionality, and the stresses placed on the watch by the owner, are often far more complicated and problematic than those placed on a typical dress or fashion watch.
Nike has a fantastic product. They have done their research directly with the athletes and incorporated their findings into useable, quality products.
And, in just the last month Nike has raised the bar on providing the very highest quality post-sale timing product service. This is an important announcement:
Nike dropped all return shipping and handling charges which is charged by the vast majority of watch companies including Timex, Pulsar, Seiko, and other well known brands. Nike has cut parts prices in HALF. In an unequalled move, Nike is providing UPS Air Delivery for all Nike Timing Products. No other watch company provides this level of service for its watch product. NONE.
Parsec is at the heart of these efforts. We gladly invite all interested persons to come to our facility or inquire as to our policies and pricing and we thank our thousands of loyal customers and atheletes for their support.

Spoken like a true President. I have a couple questions then.
1. Why have I had no problems in over a year with a $3 battery, when your $45 battery failed twice in that same time span? Keep in mind before you answer that my activity level remained the same.
2. Why is your reputation so bad that a running specialty store would place a sign on their wall in reguards to your lack of service?
