for high school running there are two that come to mind immediately. the first is called "finding their stride", and the second is "life at these speeds." both are excellent books and it takes place on the high school level.
other then that there is always the fall back book, "once a runner" (greatest running book ever written) although it will be hard to find that book, ive seen it for sale on amazon but its approaching 120 dollars, if not more by now. you can also read the sequel to it, which is called "again to carthage" but i recommend reading "once a runner" first, it makes much more sense that way. there is also "running with the buffaloes," "pain," and "pre"
just go over those again real quick:
"finding their stride"
"life at these speeds"
"once a runner"
"again to carthage"
"running with the buffaloes"
"pain"
"pre"
ENJOY!!!! :)
I haven't read it, but have heard some good things about this one:
Harriers: The Making of a Championship Cross Country Team
It is written by two guys on a cross country team, and they write up their season. Or some such thing.
There's a couple of new running novels out.
On the Road to Find Out by Rachel Toor (columnist for RT)
Finishing Kick by Paul Duffau
both are geared towards women at the high school level.
"What I Talk About When I Talk About Running," by Haruki Murakami.
I agree with everything thats been listed so far, but here are a couple more:
Long road to Boston
Duel in the Sun
the Purple Runner (This one is a bit silly)
Bill Rodgers' recent biography
Wannabe Distance God (I haven't read it but letsrun reviewed it)
There is a novel about some guy making a comeback to competitive running which escapes me. It takes place in Philly.
Actually, I have two books out now, both fiction. The first one mentioned above, Finishing Kick
http://www.amazon.com/Finishing-Kick-Paul-Duffau/dp/0988947919
, was in Running Times this past July with Rachel Toor’s and Brewster by Mark Slouka.
The second on is Trail of Second Chances
http://www.amazon.com/Trail-Second-Chances-Paul-Duffau-ebook/dp/B00L781U8U
, again geared towards young ladies and is as much an action-adventure novel as a running novel.
I need to add Geoffrey Owers book to my list of to-be-read. I have The Purple Runner, but I’m still working on Running on Empty by Marshall Ulrich.
Wannabe Distance God is definitely worth a read. Really liked Tim Tays story. I put up an interview with him on my blog a while back and linked it from here.
The Silence of Great Distance
The Runner by Cynthia Voight. Fiction for younger readers.
"The Jim Ryun Story" by Cordner Nelson.
technological slavery by Theodore Kaczynski

They'll have to update the purple runner soon the way the WR keeps going down.
