Man I can't stand not eating all I want to.
Anyway, for anyone that has done this in the past how does the weigh-in and lifting schedule go? Is it first come, first weigh-in? Do you have to bench immediately after the weigh in or do you get a little time to fuel up? I probably should have asked this earlier...
In the past you could have some time after the weigh in to eat a little.
My advice is to NOT starve yourself before the race. The best you can hope for is to get to lift 5 pounds less at the risk of being to weak.
Eat a light breakfast, weigh in, fuel up a little more and go lift, you will run better to.

Alright thanks for the advice. I was going to be close to the expo center and figured I would just go weigh in and then eat like a power bar or something.
I'm guessing you're Stan Nicols the record holder at the event so I'm glad that there will be one less guy in front of me! In the past, how have you trained for the lifting part? I think I was training the wrong way because I thought I would be up to the 30 reps by now but I've only done 26 in practice.
Stan would be benching 220 and couldn't break 20:00.

I doubt that is really the legend that is stanfontaine. He has never been seen nor heard from except that glorious day once a year when he showed up in Columbus, Ohio to outlift and outrun any man alive.

I was there this year and watched some buddies compete.
I can do the 30 resp still but am running much slower.
The only advice I give is to train at a weight which will allow you to practice getting the 30 reps.

I talked very briefly to this year's winner, looks like he ran in the 16:40 range and did 30 reps. He looked good in the run, he was by himself for most of it.
I had a blast this year. The winner in the race portion and the pump and run went 15:24 but only got 17 reps. He said that was a PR for him on the road and that's impressive considering he was alone the entire race. I got 26x my body weight and ran a 16:18. Maybe next year I'll do better.
And I was thinking about it and wouldn't it be better if they ran the open 5k and P&R together? With chip timing it wouldn't be that bad to seperate the two. Seems like the top 5 were real spread out today.
What was your real run time? Was the 16:18 your adjusted time?
Did they use the 2.9 mile course or the 3.0 mile course this year?

As odd as this would seem to someone that has never left Ohio, it is kind of a unique event to the state. Not everyone has been exposed to the format, or understands exactly how it works.

They was my 5k run time. They take 30 seconds off each rep that you do so my final time was 3:18.
And to the person that asked if it was the 2.9/3 mile course: I'm sure that it's a 5k course. For what it's worth it's certified and the last three 5ks that I have run have been 16:13,16:23 and here 16:18 so it is legit. Maybe you ran it in 2003 when it was 2.85 miles because the lead car went the wrong way.

Pump and run is easy compared to STREND
STREND event May 3rd: Bench weight to failure, Pull ups wide grip, Military press 50% bw, close grip chins (v-bar)
Bar dips (strict) 2 bungee cords at top of shoulder and 90 degree when bicep hits bottom bungee. then a 3 mile run.
Reps divided by run time: 177/17.7 (17:42) = 10
