Don't bother watching the whole video, but this newscaster claims this 11 year old kid runs a 4:50 mile and tested off the charts for his VO2max. "Doctors said they have never seen anything like it." The claim is about 2:30 into the video.

This has already been posted before, numerous times. At a recent track meet about 1 week ago, he ran 5:57 in the mile. I would say good for 11 years old but not when the father etc claims the son can run 4:50. It is interesting to see, but you also need hard work to get to the top. It was hard work that helped me in high school, and continues to do so. Talent will only get you so far.
Sincerely,
Alan
Here's some idiot's response to the video
"4:50 in mile the world record is like 3:26"
Just goes to show you who these people are.
so? There was a local kid where I grew up that ran 4:50 in middle school and only ran 4:38 as an all time best. He didn't break 4:50 and finals his senior year.
i ran 4.45 for 1500m as an 11 year old. 13 years later, i cracked 4 for the mile with a best of 3.58.4. funny thing is, my father was a very good collegiate runner who made sure that i wasn't a burn out when i was child- track practice was a treat i only "got to go" once a week. the rest of the time i was being a normal kid: riding my bike all over the city, playing soccer or basketball for hours, telemark and cross country skiing, hockey in the winter, etc. prodigious talent should be nurtured and not squandered.
the kid is obviously a ball player
wow. newscasters are stupid people. they're like dumb parrots that just repeat the crap they hear without actually knowing what they're talking about.
the guys says, "apparently this vo2max stuff is what people look at, blah...blah, they give them a scholarship because they know they will be good at whatever they do."
F*** YOU, you gray-haired bitch!
vo2max doesn't mean anything unless you're talking about endurance potential AND vo2max in kids is not an accurate predictor of vo2max as an adult.
however, the kid is talented. i'm happy for him. hope he's a star some day.
You know I am happy for this kid and all but I hate these kind of stories the news spits out! I doubt this kid will break 5 and of course his VO2 max tested "off the charts!" Most 11 year olds don't get themselves test for that stuff and he worksout 4+ hours a day! Of course if anyone worked out 4+ hours a day at that age they too would test "off the charts!" Plus most 11 year olds now a days just sit and eat and watch tv all day and get fat!
I actually thought it was a great video. Seems like an extremely talented, hard-working, and yes, happy kid, with a father who seems pretty cool about the whole thing.
The story was edited beautifully, too. Not a wasted moment. Could be a j-school video for how to compose a feature on somebody with unusual talents.
Y'all runners need to get out more and enjoy life a little. You're getting needlessly out of joint.
It's a video about a kid with remarkable talents. Period.
Okay I thought he was kind of cool and all right but yea check out his myspace:

seems like a cocky idiot. And his dad is a total idiot too. I emailed him just asking him about Jashaun running those times and he sends back stuff like "LOL dont be hating on the kid" "LOL jashaun is better than you will ever be" "LOL he will break the world record" etc. And in a recent meet, February 24th, the kid apparently ran 5:57...
Here is the dyestat discussion thread on it:

Has all the info and the info about the recent meet if you go to the last few pages.
There is a claim in one of his youtube video that he can run the 50m in 5 seconds flat....
basketball is an interesting sport... hard work has a lot to do with it just like running, but there is no substitute for natural ability and athleticism.. its really hard to tell at the age of 11 how someone is going to develop in the end when the other kids catch up.
Don't drink so much haterade...you're going to need a wahmbulance...
Nice shoes they got the kid running in.
Looks like he's no longer running. Just finishing his freshman year in h.s. and appears to be one of the better PGs in his region, but we're definitely not seeing a Kenny Anderson type prodigy.
No one is hating. Don't be an idiot. As a freshman point guard jn HS he is only averaging about 3 points a game. Would anyone think that is great? Yes he had good ball handling skills but his assist and steal statistics aren't great either. We are looking at an over hyped kid who is undersized and really has no chance at playing pro ball. In fact, no one would have even heard of him if his dad didn't post youtube videos.
