Will Wisconsin finally be overthrown by this weekend at the Big 10 Track Championships? Michigan is the talk, but Illinois and Purdue look to contend as well. Badgers will be at home and will rely heavily on their distance guys (moreso than in years past where they domninated the hep, jumps, and Demi).

Michigan will be 2nd though.
When you look at the yearly performance list, Michigan should win rather easily. With Wisco being at home, I'd say it ends up tight, but Michigan wins.
This is the first BIG TEN meet in years where Wisconsin will have to get every point possible out of the distance guys in order to win.
Is Withrow fit enough to double? Is Wagner still alive? How fit are Eagon and Miller? Which events will Jager and Gasper run? Who will run in the DMR? It will be very interesting to see how Schumacher plays it. They will need to place a bunch of guys in the Mile-3K-5K and the fifths, sixths and sevenths will be huge.
Does anyone know if Big 10 indoor champs will be televised on Big 10 TV network?

i'm as big of a fan of the wisconsin team as any, but i have to say i'm afraid that this is the year they don't win. just too young of a team with too many holes to pull off another win.

Illinois to contend. Other than "Shoes" Illinois is pretty weak. The word is spreading about "Coach" Angel's "great" coaching.

Wisconsin will score 20 points in the mile, 3k, and 5k each. Add a guaranteed 10 in the dmr and they have 70 points distance only. Add another guarnteed win in the multi and they're at 80. They sit 2-3 in the 800 (14). It just keeps going.
They may not win by 40 points like years past where they took the 5k off, but the meet will be well in hand after the 1st day and the 3k and DMR at the end of the meet is going to kill the rest of the conference.
I like Illinois for 2nd, Michigan for 3rd, Purdue for 4th, OSU for 5th, and Minnesota for 6th (the pv is just to big an event that never goes to form for Minnesota).
You cannot pick Illinois for 2nd and have ANY credibility. Illinois is terrible, hoping for 7th place at best. Michigan has to be the favorite, and Minnesota and Purdue (yes Purdue) can contend for the title besides the Badgers.
I agree the Badgers need to score 20 points in the mile-5k, but can they? Eagon ran well last weekend but that was his only race all indoor, how healthy is he to double? They also have no guarantee in the Multi like years prior, and 14 points may be a bit optimistic in the 800. This is going to be a really close and exciting meet. I think it comes down to the 4x4, and with the top time the Badgers take it home!

Win both the dmr and mile relays.
Withrow, Eagon, Lacy, Craven in 5k with all 4 scoring.
400 guy who is runnerup in 400 behind Meshito who will probably win 600.
Multi eventer ranked 2nd.
Long jumper ranked 3rd.
Bottom line is if the rest of the conference falls asleep in the distance area except Lex Williams and Jeff See (as has happened the last 2 years), the Badgers will win easily.

Hoerr is an excellent xc runner and pretty solid on the track in the 10km. But he is out of his league in the 3km and 5km in the Big 10. The only way he wins the 5km is if Wisco and Michigan pull out all their guys.Illinois is very weak in every event save for the 400 (and by extension the 4x4), PV, LJ, and TJ. And even then, other than the 400 they are relying on 1 guy in each of those events. A choke, NH/NM will ruin any remote chance Illinois has of being in the top 3.And if history is any indication, Angel will probably overload his sprinters so much that they end up hurt or so tired that they are non-factors in later events on the final day.

U of I is a sleeper that will keep on hibernating straight through this entire track and field season. Hoerr has a shot to win the 5k, and Nachel could place top four with a little luck and a big time race, but those two can't carry a team, especially since neither will score in the top five in the 3k. They have some scorers like the AP eluded to, but they are far from a top three team at this point. If they are in the top half that is an accomplishment.
