I don't know either, but it is really starting to suck not having the log up.
bump
You guys should start going to Running2Win.com
Best logging website I have ever been on, simple idea and amazing features. check it out!
i think that site is now closed for good. there was another thread on this recently and the guy from running2win posted that he had received an email about this. as i recall, the guy who did running-log.com did it as a college project and was tired of doing it, and said he had not really done anything with it in several years. it also mentioned he was in the process of selling the site to someone else.
the running2win guy also pointed out that the servers were down. so it looks like it is not coming back.
i got the impression it is down for good.
do a search and you may find the earlier thread.
threads like these pop up with some regularity. cool running just had big problems.
i have no idea why anyone trusts an online log - in this case it was being done by some college kid as a school project.
my suggestion is to use dave hays excel spreadsheet.

best of luck.
here is the other recent thread.

Hey all... This is Mike from running2win.com. I wanted to post here for two reasons. First, I would like to give a reason to Slow and Steady's comment "Because when it comes down to it, why should they care about your crap?" - Well, for me it comes down to integrity. My site is very personal to me and I go to great lengths to make sure there is never a problem with my member's data. I don't want to force anyone to be on the site and would never do what coolrunning.com did... I personally keep 30 days of backups for running2win and if I ever planned to give up the site (which I'm not) I would make sure everyone had their data first and write easy export functions. So, I can't speak for other running log sites but I do care - a lot.
Second, I have an importer for running-log.com's export file. In order to get your old running-log file you'll need the program that was created by the running-log owner and then download your file and email it to me at:
with your running2win.com user name. I have downloaded it and saved it to running2win.com at:
http://www.running2win.com/tools/r-logexporter.exe
NOTE!!!: I just tried the program and it's not finding running-log.com's server so you may be in trouble...
ALSO: Something that probably not many of you know is that running-log is being sold... Here is an email about it sent on Jan 25, 2008.
Anyway, good luck to all of you and if you want to try out running2win for a couple of week I don't think you'll be unhappy.
Mike
=========== EMAIL FROM Branton to me when I asked him about porting his members over to running2win.com because he didn't look like he was doing anything for the site. ===========
''Hi Mike --
My name is Branton and I'm the owner of Running-Log.com. It was a college project for me, but I've spent very little time on it since I graduated almost five years ago. The domain name is still very well ranked by search engines. Here are the rankings for the search term "running log":
Search Term: running log
Results for Running-Log.com:
Google: #2
Yahoo: #1
Live: #1
Results for running2win.com:
Google: #14 (page 2)
Yahoo: #6
Live: #11 (page 2)
This week, two sites independently contacted me to offer to buy Running-Log.com. I'm offering the domain name, the database, and any code that I have. (I don't have code for the current site, but all of the SQL queries are in the database.) I am asking that whomever I sell the site to import the logs of my users so that they don't lose their data.
The first offer came in at $1,000 and I expect the second offer to come in tomorrow. I wanted to open it up to more online training logs. Do you have any interest in the site? If so, I can provide information on the number of users and answer any questions you may have.
Thank you,
Branton''
From Mike Stahr himself...
I sort of agree with you sam w - about trusting a site to keep your log - but not really in the case of running2win.com. I can't speak for any other site but for me I treat r2w’s databases (the member's data) as I do my own. I have my log up there - all my years of running starting in 1980 - and would not want ANYTHING to happen to it. I keep no less than 30 days of backups (I back up every night and offload that data to separate servers in different locations) so what can really happen to the member's data that I can't retrieve in a matter of a few hours? I'm kind of anal about data being that I've been in IT for over 20 years as well as the sport of running was/is a big part of my life. The point is that it really comes down to the people/person in charge of your data. I, for example, feel that member's data is as important as mine and have taken precautions that even if the building that hosts the main r2w servers blows up it would only take a day to get another server running, point the site to it, reload the application, and attach the previous day's database back up (meaning at most members would lose the current day’s entry). All-in-all it really doesn't get too much more secure than that.
What I found after speaking with the guy from running-log (Branton) is that he had no interest in anything but making as much money on selling his site name. I actually wrote him an email last year asking if he would mind porting his members over to r2w and share in some portion of anything r2w made in the future or get paid for moving his members. I did this because when I went to his site I saw that the last time he updated his news (on the front page) was back in 2004 and felt it was a waste to not open his members up to much better sites. I got NO response from him.
In addition, there are many reasons why it's nice to have an online running log. Just a few are: No matter where you are you can log your runs/workout. You can share your running log (at least at running2win.com and a few others) as well as feed through other member's running log (as long as their log is shared). I can go on but when you think of it there are reasons why not having an online log works for some but having one is equally as nice.
Anyway, the idea of an Excel page is really less secure than most online logs. I see more home computers crash and burn with users that never think of how to preserve their files... In this case most every user will lose their Excel running log...
So, what's the harm in trying an online site for a couple of week? Of course I encourage anyone to try running2win but there are others that are good as well...
To all - good luck.
haha... sub 4 was ahead of me...
I am telling you, Running2win is that best log site I have ever been on. Try it out, You can even look me up on R2W under the same name. I would not lie to fellow runners, just trying to help all the runners out. Plus I am not even an owner or deal with the site. I am just a user who is trying to get the word of mouth out there.
Hope you consider taking my advice!
Best of Luck and enjoy your trials.
Would hope that if Branton is giving up the ghost on his site he would give all the runners that have used his sight over the past few years a headsup and a chance to download their data so that they could move to another site. Seems incredibly unjust to let it just die with all that data and the work that has been put in by so many to keep their daily records. Branton was (is) a runner and should fully appreciate what these records mean to the users that have continued to use the site - even though very little has been done to it over the past few years.
Does anyone have contact information for him?
I'm Branton -- the owner of Running-Log.com. I just found out today that the site is currently down. I'm on the phone with my hosting service's technical support. Your data isn't lost and the service should be online again in the near future. I'll have something to announce about a possible sale soon.
it's too late now dude. this is crap. you haven't taken care of the site for years and the only reason i didn't look around for another site was because i too lazy about it. the only good thing about your site being down is i was forced to check out other on line running logs and found that running-log actually sucks compared to the others on line. now your's going to sell it? right! you and coolrunning. no thanks i'll lose all my data before i ever go back to running-log.
and another thing. if you just found out about it today then that just goes to show you care nothing about us runners. so you want us to believe now that you're going to sell the site to someone and you'll make sure all of our data is safe? right. who are you going to sell to? i bet active.com. yea right thanks for nothing. i can't believe i've spent so long with running-log. i'm pissed.
Pissed or not - bottom line it to get access to my data. Would appreciate having the server back up and some idea of future plans. Actually think that having someone else take over the site if Branton has moved on to other things is not a bad idea.
FYI, Branton sent me a personal email saying the same thing. I think he is sincere. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

If the post by Branton is truly from Branton - could we get a sense of if and when the server may be back up. I am having withdrawl issues &**^^%%$$##(*
just try other running log sites. there are a few out there and i am even tracking my log on two sites to see which one i want to stay with. one has an import and i will use it when and if Branton gets the server back running. i really don't care if running-log starts working again (except for my data) because i'm not going to stay with a site that is run by a guy that obviously doesn't care about it and it’s not even close to these other ones. he might seem sincere but the site has been down long enough for it to be fixed i think.
Trust me running2win is going places.

I definitely agree. Right now I don't care what future plans are for the site or where I should or shouldn't go post my logs, or whether or not Branton cares about running/runners...all I want is my running log data from the last two years. Since that last time the site was down I've been meaning to copy my logs over or something, but I've never gotten around to it. Now I am seriously worried that I'm going to lose two years worth of training. I spent a lot of time and energy recording that date and that is all I want, my data back.
So Branton if you read this or whatever, just fix the site for a day or something or let us somehow get our logs off. That's all I think any of us want right now.
...seriously, I feel like a member of my family is on it's death bed or something.
