For the last 3 Months, I have been training by the Van Aaken principles. I bot the book on Amazon and his philosophy makes complete sense.
I started to do my training runs MUCH slower than previously. For the first month, I was running @ 10:30/pace in order to keep my pulse below 130. Since then, I have gotten faster and now clipping off 9:00 miles (really flying-lol). I have gotten my mileage up to 55/week.
My question is if I do gradual pickups of 150-200 meters during training 1 day a week and run the marathon distance once a week at a really slow pace (10:00 min mile), can I expect to run a marathon under 3:30 even though I am running much slower when I cover the distance in training.
I do my pickups @ 6:50 pace for approx. 25-30 reps.
Hopefuly someone who used to train under Van Aaken Principle will read this post and offer insight on how to tweak the system.
