I thought he was going to run a two mile today...that would have been interesting. 4:00min mile conversion, is that his fastest?

He was closer to 3:44 than 3:43 so the conversion would be just over 4:01 (according to McMillan's). Just pointing out a small error, it doesn't take anything away from his nice race.
it is always good to run a personal best, but this race shows why he should use his remaining ncaa eligibility (as is his plan) 343 just wont cut it on the professional circuit even for 10k runners, but he is young and the future is bright.
Bekele probably came through 1500 faster in his 2mile (he was through a mile in 4:00) but it is hard to compare a young Rupp to the world record holder. Rupp has plenty of time.
Are you stupid? He's just trying to get some speedwork in before the outdoor season. HE WILL BE IN THE TOP 10 IN THE WORLD AT THE OLYMPICS THIS YEAR!!! HE'S LIKE 21! GET A CLUE...
Yeah, I really don't see why people keep doubting his future success, considering that he's the fastest American Collegiate 10k runner, ever. By the numbers, there has never in the history of the 10k been a more promising athlete.

no he won't. nothing against the guy, but it isn't going to happen
it's a high 401 conversion for Rupp.

JUST trying to get some speedwork in?? Does one REALLY have to travel to England just for speedwork? I can go to my local track to just do some speedwork.

There has also never in the history of collegiate sports been a more promising douchebag
He wanted to do his speed work in a form of a race, and england is where he found people up to the challenge.
And guy above, why is he a douchebag? Because he makes you look like a pansy? Because he's elite and your mediocre? Or because it is you, that is the douchebag?
Always justify what you say...douchebag

I think the reason people are getting annoyed by him is not that he's decided to do mile races as speedwork, but because he's run 3 meets against the world's best and he always runs a time that probably a dozen college guys I haven't even heard of could beat.
I'm pretty sure there was a mile race at University of Washington where 3 people broke 4 minutes and 3 more people were under 4:01. In other words Rupp could have travelled less than 300 miles to get a race just as good of quality as the one nearly 5000 miles away. So why England? Is it because he thinks the only way to break 4 minutes is through a conversion time? Or maybe because he is full of himself and thinks he's "too good" for college meets now (even though there are 2 guys on his OWN TEAM who can beat him in the mile [check the UW meet])? Speedwork? All he needs to do is race his teammates for that. Premadonna? Absolutely. And that, in part, is what makes Galen Rupp a douche bag.
I don't know why alot of people are hating on this young talent. Everyone knows Rupp doesn't have great leg speed. Neither did Ryan Hall. But Hall is a sure shot for a medal in the marathon in this summer Olympics. And let me point out that he is an American native. Rupp (also an American native) has blossomed early and has shown flashes of greatness. His college carrer has gone alot better in comparison to Hall. Rupp gives us no reason to doubt him. Dare I say that he reminds me of Pre? How about we give it up for American Distance running. We're back!!!
May I add that Rupp does have a coach. I don't think Rupp makes decisions by himself. Premadonna? Unless you Josh McDougle, or have previously beaten Rupp in a race, I don't think you rate to criticize the youngster. He did lead his team to a national x-country title. What planet are you from?

Speaking of getting a clue, Bekele set the WR at 5000 when he was still a few weeks shy of 22, and the 10000 when he was 23. Rupp may be the fastest collegiate 10k runner of all time, but as far as world competition is concerned, he's already behind the curve.

I better not EVER hear such foul language the rest of my life!!!!! I won't even get into the details, but I will say this: Prefontaine could AT LEAST run a 4minute mile, as he sometimes did...BEFORE HIS FULL WORKOUTS!! You cannot say that Rupp is even 4th in the world right now either. And do you see Rupp in the future ever living off food stamps in a trailer park???? I'm still looking for that photo of Prefontaine running a race with a Breathe-Rite strip on...oh wait, he never did! How many American records does Galen Rupp have? Ok, tell me how many collegiate records does Rupp have? Oh, and do you rememer Prefontaine saying "hey, I'm just going to go hang out in my altitude tent"? Or how about this one, "I think my legs are hurting, can I run on a zero-gravity treadmill today?" When did Rupp run a race with a bloody foot? Can you picture Rupp sporting a moustache? So, in other words, the only similarity between Rupp and Pre is they went to the same school? If that's the case, my grandfather reminds me of Pre too.
This is a new day in age son. Better athlete across the board.
so everyone everywhere has to develop at the same rate or they're "behind the curve"?
There's a huge difference between setting a WR and finishing 10th at the Olympics. I don't find it that outlandish of a prediction.

Please! I beg of you, in all seriousness. Please explain how Rupp is "better across the board." I honestly want to hear this. Tell me both in terms of their track times, their times relative to other times that had been run before them, and in terms of the equipment they used to acheive their times.
P.S. You don't hear comparisons to Roger Bannister ever, even though Bannister is 'slow' in today's standards. Why is this? Because he was fast as hell given running's history up to that point and what he had to work with to get there.
