oops. I'm assuming this was an indoor track? Jeremy hasn't run many indoor 200s. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Wariner has always been pretty bad at the 200, at least relative to his 400 dominance. He's "only" run 20.19 and has gone under 20.40 (the cutoff for the alltime-athletics.com lists) 6 times. Batman is a scrub, however, so losing to him isn't encouraging.

Ah. Well, 20.9 isn't terrible for your first race of the year. Especially for a guy who has never broken 20.
But Wariner said he has been working more on strength this year and he can finish stronger. Was that ever his weakness? It seems like he lacks in the raw speed department (as evidenced by his comparitavely slow 200 times), but has always finished very well.

20.9 isn't bad for Wariner- the fact that he lost to the winner who only ran 20.8 is bad.
Wariner can run 20.5 for the 200 if he gets a clean start, but thats far off his PR.
I think he's still about 44-43.8 without Hart. But will that be enough to win Beijing? maybe just enough. Wariner should be running 42.8 though, he's that good. I guess it really is all about the money.
He'll collect his 400 Gold, and his relay gold and go home thinking about how he could have broken the WR this year.
but maybe he won't. we'll see.

20.9 is irrelevant. The true story is how much of a loser this batman guy is, and being pissed at losing to him.
Beats Frater by .2 though and Frater is a world medallist.

wind reading may give alert fans a clue to it being an outdoor meet...No? There have been reports of who was going to tun in Australia this season on this and other T&F sites..
Darold Williamson got creamed in the 400m too. I think the result has a lot to do with travelling all the way to Australia to compete rather than anything more substantial.

To a degree, but I'd look to the calendar for clues. The result (only 0.7 off of his PR) is more in line with what one would expect on FEBRUARY 16th. Wariner opened his season on April 2, April 21 and March 25, respectively, during the last three seasons.
A very nice start for Wariner!
Blokes like Warriner come down to Oz in their early off-season training period.They,even if far from race fit,give the Aussie lads some much needed competition in THEIR race period.They are well regarded for this in Oz.
They also tend to get a lot more respect of their ability and understanding of their current status than shown by some of the dills who input to Letsrun.
Batman is actually a class act when fit,look up his career record rather than spouting rubbish.
