So I decided that since my wife is awesome and has given birth to two fine children, I would send her some pretty roses on this Hallmark Holiday which shall remain unnamed.
I went on to the 1-800-Flowers website - and like a total jackass - proceeded to spend over $200 on flowers.
Well, this was 3 days ago, and I was excited b/c I had planned ahead and knew it was the first year that I wasn't going to have to show up with some wilted flowers that I salvaged from the remaining pick-overs at the Whole Foods on my way home from the office.
I call home around lunch today, but no "thank yous" or anything from the wife. I figure they will come later. After a string of meetings I am sure there will be a message on my voicemail... Nothing...
It is close to 4pm and I am getting worried at this point.
I come home from work and NOTHING had ever arrived. It is 7:00pm at this point.
I check my online bank account. The money is already taken from my checking account from 1-800-Flowers.
So it is now midnight and nothing ever arrived. The money has left my account and I have been trying to call the damn company since 4pm this afternoon. They are not accepting calls due to "high volume" (even at 11:30 tonight) and the automated system just refers you to the website and cuts you off.
I go to the website and my order simply says, "Order Placed"
I am sorry, but why take the orders if you cannot fulfill them? I am a pretty understanding guy, but if you are going to quadruple the price of flowers on ONE DAY EVERY YEAR, you should be able to deliver them on that day.
I don't want the flowers delivered tomorrow, that is really tacky. It screams, "I forgot to get you flowers and I am getting them today instead b/c I am cheap and stupid."
Now I hate Valentines Day just as much as the next guy, but this was one year when I was trying to play along b/c my wife has had a rough year.
This is ridiculous, and I don't want any of y'all to have to deal with it. They make me feel like a sucker and a moron.
If you are going to get your honey some flowers, call anyone but 1-800-Flowers.
