I had no idea that Kenny paid any attention to this site. Kenny, if you're out there, I still think that "Best Efforts" includes some of the best writing about runners that I've come across in over thirty years.

who said he did?
Front page quote of the day:
"Moore said he already has cleared the critical hurdle that worried him most: the readers of “Let’s Run,” a Web site for the world’s hardest core runners. The comments posted there can be savage, brutal,” Moore said this week. “But they loved it."
ok, thanks. I go right to the message board most days. I really enjoyed his "Bowerman, Men of Oregon" book.
I actually just started reading Bowerman and the Men of Oregon.
So far so good!
Exemplary piece of writing - especially since it's running-related, of course; but,"savage... brutal"? Not LetsRun... How's it go? ...the difference between the LetsRun forum and a vulture? At least the vulture waits till your dead before it picks the flesh off your bones.
i got it and could not get past the early crapters [27th couisin stuff], skipped to the running stuff. Kenny Moore has always been a great writer at SI.

Awesome book, I could not put it down.
Savage and brutal? Hard core runners? Puleeze.....this is a bunch of guys who couldn't make the football team (see other rants on banning football talk) and have NO LIFE. Angry little men on here...
Moore is correct. There is nothing sacred at this forum. Everything is parsed and savaged at this joint, including poor old ladies. You want anything you hold sacred to be pummeled, then post it here so it can be turned in to red meat for the hundreds of self anointed critics/experts that frequent the place. Other than that, this is a great place to be (sarcasm off).
That's funny. First he said hardest core runners. Second, I seriously doubt it.
Best Efforts is amazing. I love the end of the first chapter:
"You know," I said, "all this time I thought the Olympic champion was somebody incredibly special."
Frank gave me a consoling look, as though he would have liked to protect me from this final disillusionment. "And then you found out," he said, "that it was only me."
I agree. I dont know who could possibly be even remotely interested in all the family history stuff. I'm about 1/4 way through and I'm going to start skipping ahead to see if I can find any actual running stuff.

I found it interesting. Remember, this is a bio on Bowerman - the family history provides context to the kind of man be became...
well heck, KENNY MOORE ... if you ever see this ... your article on Mamo Wolde was so kickass it made me cry.
Also, the Gerry Lindgren article you wrote was another excellent piece of writing.
Have a nice day.
Ya'll sure dont make many typo's on the home page execpt this one...see all caps...
Tyson Gay and Adidas Crew are in Beijing Gay, Allyson Felix, and Jeremy Wariner all run for adidas. Craig Masback better start working hard. Gay is training 3 TIME S AD AY in his attempt to get 3 Olympic golds...
Way to go guys...way to go..
I agree with fgfg, the first few chapters were tough to get through.
Interesting info about the Munich Olympics and the snipers - what the press did not tell us.
Would have loved to have read much more about Matt Centrowitz.
I really enjoyed Bowerman and the Men of Oregon. It was a very well written and interesting book. Made me want to try to get tickets to the trials this summer. I have never been to Eugene but after reading the book I wanted to go live there.
I think it was sarcasm.

Most of the time when people troll they at least try to hide it in some way.....lesson for the future for you I guess?
