Interesting question. A local running buddy is a blind athlete who races 1500 (among other distances). His PB is ~ 4:06-07. Last year he came very close to the world record for his category (4:05 I think). I know some of the guys who guide him from time to time in workouts and local races, and I gather it's much more difficult to guide him that to race alone. So by extension, one would think it's even that much more difficult to be the blind (or blindfolded) athlete being guided - in part because of the energy you spend trying to stay on track with your guide, and in part because you're racing extra distance (I think most blind distance runners run on the outside to avoid tripping on the rail, although I could be wrong).
Could a blindfolded Mottram, or Sully, or El G run faster than this guy? I would imagine so. But I'm not sure how close they'd be able to get to their normal times. I'd guess no better than ~ 20s slower first time out, and it would probably take a lot of experience to take much off that.
Of course I'm only guessing, and would be interested to know if there are any legitimate fast blindfolded mile results out there.
