Taking the point raised by Mr Obvious on the "Who is the most successful fat or stocky runner" thread Runnersworld once had a beat your weight marathon article i.e. not many 130lb runners break 2:10 and few at 200lb break 3:20. However, for women few run within 30 mins of their weight. Using this formula the best marathon weight performers appear to be:
Derek Clayton 128 (2:08:34) - 160(lb) = minus 32
whereas Bill Rodgers 129 - 128 = +1
or Geb 124 - 123 = +1
best female performance is perhaps Marian Sutton 148 (2:28) - 140 = +8
Using this formula Clydesdale King's performance is superior to Clayton's! 152 - 195 = minus 43
How does your marathon compare? Are you negative or positive?
