5th grade = 10 or 11 y.o.
what is the mile world record for that age?
The link does not seem to be working.
this should work
it says he just turned 11 and i think he is from the washington area
bantam age record for 1500 is 4:43
maybe he ran a 4:50 1500?
4:43 is the usatf record, don't know what world record is
I dont know if that shot was just for the film crew, but the track he was running on probably isn't certified for any kind of competition. He probably is pretty fast, but I guess we'll know for sure when he 'tries to break the record for his age group later this winter.' I'm sure we'll hear something on Letsrun later if it actually happens, but until then I'm skeptical. Non-runners really have no concept of how far an actual mile is, and how measurements they might think are close are actually way off. Ask someone not familiar with running how much of a time difference .1 of a mile would make, and see what they say.
Yeah, let's see where he is in 5 years

The footage was shot at the Federal Way Community Center. Federal Way is just south of Seattle.
He'll be playing basketball in 5 years, not running track...
i used to train with a young kid who ran 4.33 when he was 11
You mean you used to run with a liar? I've done that.
ya i think we've ALL done that
That kid DOES have some serious hoop skills.
Interesting that he tested "off the charts" for VO2 max.
Notice that the announcers had no real clue as to what VO2 Max is. They also said if you test high on VO2 max you can do well in any sport, no matter what.....uhmmm...OK.
I did like the announcer giving a plug for the kid to go to WSU for college ball. He'll probably go to the NBA after high school though.

Only if he is 19.
he'll end up 5'6" and playing street ball
How much does VO2max change with age, anyway?
He was running in basketball shoes and shorts. I bet with some spikes, running shorts, and running on a real track who could go 4:30 right now easy.
