yes. he has run 4 flat so many times. just a matter of him breaking it. i hope he does. he deserves it. after going 4 flat so many times he is someone you root for breaking 4. such a humble guy too. cant ask for a better sportsman.

Sam Bair, Sr went to Kent State in late 60s and was a sub4 miler and highly ranked in the US for many years. Sam Bair, Jr grew up in Pittsburgh, went to Kent State for a year then transferred to Pitt. He's trying to go sub4 like his father - they would be the first American father/son tandem to do so. Kip and Martin Keino are the world's first pair.

Actually Sam Bair Jr. was at Kent State in the 60's. The one that runs for Pitt is Sam Bair III. I Believe Sam Bair (Sam the thirds grandpa) was a doctor or something like that.
That is correct. The other bit of erroneous info in this thread is that Sam Jr. is from Ohio, wrong again, he is from PA-he just went to college in Ohio.
at the meet yesterday, everyone was cheering for him during the last 400 meters when it looked liked he would def break 4
then with about 100 to go he was passed by bogdan and it looked like he tenses up a little while trying to match him.
as he goes through the line its unclear whether or not he had broken 4 and everyone was silent looking towards the score board
finally as the 4:00.16 pops up everyone let out a oooooooh

don't forget about Darren Brown formerly of the University of Texas. He was in a race that went out in 64 yesterday and ran 402ish. His father also ran sub-4 and he is in the hunt also!
Will Bair be at Meyo this upcoming weekend?
The facts on Sam Bair, who is my first cousin. Sam, the father, is from Scottdale, Pa. He was twice 880 yard Pa. state champion, then went to Kent State, where he was a seven-time All-American in cross country and track. His son, Sam III, will run the Meyo Mile this weekend at ND. Sam III has been so close to breaking 4:00 for so long, it would be great to see him get there on Saturday. He has the bloodlines and talent to break through. For the last two years, several U.S. runners with sub-four fathers have been trying to get the honor. I know Sam's dad thinks he is ready.
