i think the guy who wrote charlie and the chocolate factory (Dahl) used to keep a notepad by his bedside table, so that when he had one of those crazy-yet-interesting ideas whilst in the pre-real-sleep stage, he could jot down a quick sentence of what he was thinking before he forgot.
I've had some good ideas for stories too, I think, but I always forget them :(
I am in computer programming and I have often typed programs on my pillow during the night. My wife tells me that I sit up and use my pillow as a keyboard.
Not sure if they always make sense or not though.
I'm also a computer programmer. I designed the geographic portion of a 911 system for a major city. Quite of few, if not most, of the big idea breakthroughs came while daydreaming on runs.
sorry i meant actually dreaming while asleep
Yes. I was young and was feeling guilty about masterbation and needed to have an orgasm so during a dream I, um, er, you know. Definitely solved that problem.
I don't do well with fictional writing or poetry, but one time I had this crazy dream where everyone was speaking poetry (and it made sense) and the stuff that happened in my dream was really complex and clever. When I woke up I was like, how the hell did I come up with that shit? Never wrote down what it actually was though so I've forgotten the details.
I took spanish in high school and was pretty bad at it, but I've had a few dreams in spanish and I was speaking and understanding way better than I do in read life. It's really wierd
Last semester I developed a killer thesis with plenty of evidence supporting it for a term paper while sleeping. I woke up and it was all clear to me. Hasn't happened since.
Paul McCartney composed the tune for "Yesterday" in a dream. When he woke, it was so clear in his head that he was sure it was something he'd heard on the radio. His bandmates convinced him otherwise. The song ended up being fairly successful.
He was about 22 at the time. I'm sure when most of you guys graduate from college you'll have similar success, provided you spend enough time sleeping and dreaming. Good luck to all.
I dreamt that we needed to attack Iraq to save the world from terrorists. Its working!
Next I dreamt about a peace treaty between Israel and the Arabs. Its gonna happen!
I have had sex with Carmen Electra in my dreams I don't know how many times! That's a pretty useful idea if you ask me!
Mendeleev invented the periodic table in a dream
Miruts Yifter invented the "kick" also while dreaming. Previous to this dream kicking did not exist.
It was the night before a big exam and I had lost my notes that day. I was stressed as all hell. There was a question I was sure would be on the exam, which we had not discussed since the third week of class, concerning the location of the human endogenous circadian oscillator.
I went to bed thinking about that very question. Then BAM! At 5.00am Suprachiasmatic Nucleus just pops into my head in a dream. I have no idea what I was dreaming about, suffice to say I literally woke up that moment with those exact words being spoken from my mouth. F'en scary.
