maybe for sprinting or bounding, but i find windbreaker pants over running shorts to be most comfortable for distance/tempo runs in cold weather. i always felt the wind chill in tights, unless i wore pants over them, which seems redundant to me. it used to bother me that the pants are a little noisy (swishy), but i got used to it.
i always figured that the people running around in $50 tights instead of $15 windbreaker pants either wanted to look fancy or REALLY hated the swish of the pants. i guess it makes sense in races, too...
